219 West

Ultra Hip In The Warehouse District
219, West 4th Street
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 474 2194
http://www.219west.com/
219 West is a posh downtown bar with Euro-Manhattan flair, sharp taste buds and a keen eye for interior design. The restaurant/bar opens weekdays for lunch to serve American tapas, open faced sandwiches, soups, salads and mini burgers. After five, 219 West turns down the lights and turns up the music to offer moderately priced cocktails and appetizers. Pick your meal based on the alcohol with which it's paired – Spicy Cheese Fries on The Beer Menu, Grilled Asparagus with Lump Crab on The Martini Menu, Turkey Fajitas on The Tequila Menu, etc. You won't go hungry…or thirsty…at 219 West.

Crown & Anchor

Frat party, almost
2911, San Jacinto Boulevard
Austin, TX 78705
United States
+1 512 322 9168
Walking into the Crown & Anchor is like walking into the University of Texas boathouse. The 5 HD screens showcasing games, burgers and fries and a good selection of beer make the pub a popular hangout amongst college students and professors too. For the wagering kind, there's the dartboard and pool tables to win a few bucks. If you don't worry about parking or about noisy pubs (there's no such thing as a quiet pub!), spend an evening at this unofficial Austin Institution.

FINO Restaurant, Patio & Bar

Flavors of the Mediterranean
2905, San Gabriel Street
Austin, TX 78705
United States
+1 512 474 2905
http://www.astiaustin.com/
The brains behind Asti probably got the inspiration for Fino when having a meal while perusing through an atlas. The cuisine is broadly categorized as Mediterranean but includes French, Spanish, Italian and Greek. This holds true for the wine list of around 90 labels as well, which include the staple French and Italian but also have vintages from Portugal and far away Australia. The tapas bar is a good bet as it lets you taste a bit of everything. Tuesdays are Spanish nights and Fino has Happy Hour everyday. Keep in mind, there are no rules: or maybe just one; come to Fino with an open mind and an empty stomach.

Flip Happy Crêpes

Jump for joy
400 Jessie Street
Austin, TX 78704
United States

The French seem to be inspiring the folks in Austin. If the Bistro Le Marseillaise is an out-of-the-box concept, well, Flip Happy Crêpes is an inside-an-Airstream concept. Operating out of a trailer parked off South Lamar Boulevard, the menu has sweet and savory crêpes for all tastes and a mini crêpe and nutella roll up for the kids. Flip Happy also serves tea, coffee and sodas and have a seating area with tables on the lawn. This is one place, even the French will admit, where the crêpes are as good as back home.

Louie's 106

Upscale restaurant
106 East 6th Street
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 476 1997

This is an anomaly in Austin's laid-back and relaxed culture: a sophisticated, urban, upscale restaurant. The atmosphere is elegant, yet cozy; relaxed, yet full of energy. The wine list is encyclopedic, and the menu is a blend of tapas, pastas and other Mediterranean dishes, including such classics as Seafood Risotto Paella and Bouillabaisse. There is a fresh fish special daily, as well as a special vegetarian offering. The Beef Filet is a delectable choice for meat-lovers; also try the Broiled Lamb Loin. But save room for dessert - it has some of the best in town. Private dining rooms are available for parties or business dinners, and a cigar-and-cognac room adds a nice touch.

Malaga's Wine and Tapas Bar

Tapas, Spanish food
208 West Fourth St
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 236 8020
This upscale tapas bar features traditional sample plates of Spanish favorites and a wide variety of wine available by the glass. Vegetable empanadas are flaky, rich packages filled with spinach and ricotta or a daily special filling. The Arroz Con Pollo, chicken with a tasty saffron rice, is not to be missed. The slick atmosphere belies the comfortable feel. After work, this is a happening place for downtown types.
