Fresh and Fishy |
1716 South Congress Street Austin, TX 78704 United States +1 512 383 8877 |
For lovers of seafood, the search ends right here. Freshwater fish and shellfish from all over the world is available, undoubtedly fresh and cooked in traditional home-style recipes. You have a choice of sauces and you can even select the method in which you want your meal to be cooked. The wine selection is limited but local favorites are available. At 7, it's dining in a democratic way, where your inputs count right from the pan to the plate. Bon Appetit! Review © 2007, Wcities |

A university-atmosphere cafe masterpiece |
2025 Guadalupe St #152 Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 236 0207 http://www.cafematisseaustin.com |
Some call this cafe on the edge of the University of Texas campus the (non-alcoholic) Cheers for students and professors, where graduate students grab a double espresso before walking a few blocks to libraries, and professors indulge in a pre-lecture breakfast taco. The cafe offers an elaborate and moderately priced menu, including various lattes and mochas, as well as salads (try the Salad Sampler) and sandwiches. Definitely try the Masterpiece with smoked turkey. It is located on the first floor of Dobie Mall, just inside the Guadalupe Street entrance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Still Cheesy After All These Years |
603, W 29th Street Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 478 5712 http://www.conanspizza.com |
Having catered to West Campus residents for three decades, Conan's Pizza ranks among the handful of area establishments that have managed to develop themselves into de facto University of Texas institutions. Insomuch as that the pizzeria's unusual name stems from the underground comic book store that once existed next door and that its walls are decorated with material taken from same, Conan's also acts as a much-needed time capsule containing a taste of UT's inimitable early-'70s charms. Likewise, the offerings still revolve around cheese-clogged, Chicago-style deep dish pies topped with such rare pizza accompaniments as artichoke hearts and chicken fajita strips. Several varieties of salad are also on hand in order to help college kids keep up the pretense of balanced eating. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Perfect cure for a cold!! |
2514 Guadalupe Street Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 472 8306 http://www.madammam.com/ |
This Asian joint is usually crowded with university students. The food is served on curved plates and colorful chopsticks. Chef's specialties include Tom Kha Chicken Soup with coconut milk, ginger and mushrooms. And the extremely spicy Cha Catfish will definitely help those with a cold. You must try the signature Pad Thai with large succulent shrimp and smoked diced tofu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located across from the UT campus on the Drag, this is a popular destination for students who need to take a break or are looking for a quiet place to study. If you can handle a bit of attitude from the staff, you will enjoy the modern atmosphere and a good cup of coffee. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Barbecue and blues |
512 West 29th Street Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 477 1651 / +1 512 477 2529 http://www.rubysbbq.com/ |
This restaurant features backwoods barbecue with not-so-traditional side dishes, including collard greens and vinaigrette coleslaw. Musical legends such as Buddy Guy and Maceo Parker have dined here, and the restaurant decor reflects this down-home blues appeal. The restaurant serves the only barbecue made with all-natural beef in Texas and a house sauce that is one of the tastiest around. Beer and wine are offered. Catering is also available. See their website for further information. Review © 2007, Wcities |
