Euro-Asian fusion |
2712 Bee Caves Road Austin, TX 78746 United States +1 512 328 8888 http://www.bistro88.com |
Fusion food rises above its label at this Westlake eatery. The marriage of European and Asian cuisine, is all the rage, but here it actually fuses, rather than flops. From the first glance, the decor is comfortable, but elegant, with tasteful touches of Asian art and design. Must-haves include the Hot and Sour Gumbo and the Rack of Lamb, served with Japanese eggplant, Asian pasta and vegetables. It is easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer variety of flavors, so take it slow. Each meal is a study in contrasts and while east may not meet west seamlessly, they do have a good time together. Tex-Mex |
1728 Barton Springs Road Austin, TX 78704-1037 United States +1 512 474 4452 http://www.chuys.com/ |
Equal parts Tex-Mex restaurant and Elvis Presley shrine, this place combines south-of-the-border dining with a Graceland atmosphere, all for a well-affordable price. The wait staff, friendly and helpful, have been voted as the fastest in town by 'Austin Chronicle' readers. Given the competition, it is no small accomplishment that this is commonly considered the best Tex-Mex restaurant in town. The Elvis homage, oddly enough, works. Hubcaps and images of the rock icon set the stage for a dining experience that is pleasant and casual. The menu features a variety of Mexican dishes (the house special, an overstuffed chicken-and-green-chile confection called a Chuychanga, is especially recommended), steaks and burgers, and features a selection of cold beers and mixed drinks to help wash down the hearty meals. Other branches are found at 10520 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78753 (+1 512 836 3218) and at 11680 Research Boulevard, Austin, TX 78759 (+1 512 342 0011). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Where's the juice? |
1625 Barton Springs Road Austin, TX 78704 United States +1 512 480 9501 http://www.dailyjuice.org/ |
If you're ever at a Daily Juice(there's also one in Lake Austin) or pass by their Airstream, take out time to say a warm 'Thank You'. Given all the grease, spice and beer that Austin dishes out, here's a great place to infuse a bit of the 'health conscious diet'. The stone hut near Zilker Park suits a place like Daily Juice. The juice bar serves a variety of organic juices and smoothies. One also has the option of having a made-to-order concoction to their specifications. Went overboard at El Caribe>? The Fire Hydrant(with jalapeños) is just what you need to put out that heartburn! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Kitschy espresso bar with a nature setting |
1601 Barton Springs Rd Austin, TX 78704 United States +1 512 480 8646 http://www.flipnotics.com |
Beatnik or hipster-style places such as this one aren't supposed to have a friendly, woodland view out in back, but this one does. Within its walls, one is swept away into the cute and amusing 1950s atmosphere; the antiqued robot dolls and general ambiance give you an idea of how the future was perceived a few decades ago. The espresso and various coffees are strong and flavorful, and at breakfast the usual items needed for a continental meal (muffins and pastries) are available. Vegetarian burgers and a variety of sandwiches round out the menu for lunches and dinners. The jazz playing on the jukebox makes it a cool experience. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Authentic interior Mexican |
3201 Bee Caves Road, Suite 122 The West Woods Shopping Center Austin, TX 78746 United States +1 512 327 9889 http://www.laspalomasrestauran... |
This restaurant prides itself on serving the freshest seafood and interior-Mexico specialty dishes, and is advertised as having the best margaritas in town. Lunch specials are priced at $5.95, and include choice of soup and an entree such as enchiladas, migas, or empanadas. Dinner entrees average $8.95; representative dishes are carne guisada (tenderloin beef), chicken mole, and pescado al chipotle (spicy fish filet). You will find a full bar and a regularly scheduled happy hour. The atmosphere is relaxed, but rather more sophisticated than the usual Tex-Mex restaurants. Casual to more dressy attire is acceptable.
