Spirited service |

Grape Vine Market boasts they are Austin's "Disneyland for wine and spirits" with the "customer service of Nordstrom's." This novel concept combines the broadest wine selection in town with an expert staff, unpretentious environment, low prices and gourmet foods. The idea here is not to intimidate, but rather to educate the customer. The on-staff chef oversees the selection of freshly baked and imported goods, cheese and dinners-to-go, and, in addition, recommends what wine works well with your menu. It is with good cause that they were recently voted "Retailer of the Year" by Food and Wine Magazine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A bleat of a treat |
5330, Airport Boulevard Austin, TX 78751 United States +1 512 453 2899 http://www.lammes.com/ |
Lammes Candies has a colorful history. Austin's oldest candy company, Lammes(with the 'lamb' logo, so that people pronounce the name right!) is known for its pecans, chewy caramel delights, Choc'Adillos and Kisses. Over five generations, Lammes Candies has been wagered, lost and won back and hit hard during World War-II. This forced the then ice cream store to diversify into candies, creating today's much sought after "Texas Chewie Pecan Praline." With a dedicated staff that doesn't mind bending over backwards to accommodate all your chocolate cravings, there's no other place one would rather go to get a daily fix of the love-chemical! Meat like the Mexicans like |

Not to be confused with the paletería or popsicle store by the same name, the La Michoacana chain of meat markets across Austin is where the choicest of meats reside. Pick up a chili sauce chorizo and the hard-to-find authentic Mexican seasonings like the hot chile and canela and all you need is a few friends and a man-sized grill. La Michoacana Carniceria also stock fruits and veggies, serves tacos and some pretty good pan dulce. Guess a trip to La Michoacana Carniceria can be called a snack while you shop experience! Everything under one roof |
2525 W Anderson Ln Austin, TX 78757 United States +1 512 451 9311 |
Consider this north Austin mall as an alternative to the colder, more impersonal mega-malls that have become standard in recent years. This shopping center is a bit cozier, with some unusual finds inside. Despite its smaller size, though, shoppers will still be able to browse department stores like Oshman's and Bealls, or catch a movie at the resident theater. In addition, the mall offers the only ice skating rink in town, and is home to specialty shops such as Gamefellas, Lammes Candies, and Guitar Center, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts. If there's one cheese vegans choose to eat, it's Pure Luck Goat Cheese. Just this fact speaks volumes about Pure Luck. The cheese are made from the milk of Nubian and Alpine goats and have just the right consistency and tang. Take your pick from the variety of Chevre, Feta and the much acclaimed Del Cielo. Pure luck Goat Cheese can be bought at various locations in Austin including Central Market, the Wheatsville Food Co-Op and Wink. You could also consider a scheduled tour of the farm(the farm is closed to general visitors). Given the countryside ride and the cheese, that's two good incentives right there.
