Allens Boots

Western wear institution
1522 S. Congress Avenue
Austin, TX 78704
United States
+1 512 447 1413
http://www.allensboots.com
Smack in the middle of the funky shops reviving this South Congress shopping district lies an old-fashioned Western store that's been here for years. The tan stucco exterior is pretty non-descript, but the boot-emblazoned sign by the door leaves no doubt as to Allen's leanings. This is a serious shop for serious Western wear, from the Wranglers to Justin boots and more. This is where you can grab a classic Resistol hat and a pair of ropers, or a fancier set of lizard or snake skin boots. Fancy duds are available, but so are serious work clothes. While urban cowboys are welcome to shop here, the store caters to the real thing, too.

Many people come to Antigua for the santos or carved wooden statues that depict various saints. The santos icons and crosses here are beautiful but there is more to discover than religious art in this well-stocked shop. You will find Southwestern and Latin American-style furniture and folk art, Guatemalan pillow covers and other textiles, plus a variety of jewelry. Favorite items include the wrought iron barstools with leather seats and the painted furniture. There is a lot to peruse in this cozy South Congress space, so allow lots of time for exploring.

Aqua 20th Century Modern, this store is across the street from the majority of funky antique stores on South Congress Avenue. Easily overlooked, it is more than worth your while to cross over and take a peek. A number of these retro pieces have been featured in artistic books on classic vintage furniture and generally are hard to come across in real life. This store's inventory spans the century, but their selections from the '40s and '50s are especially magnificent. Prices can be a bit on the high side, but due to their rarity and excellent condition, most items are worth it.

Angela Atwood and Peg McCoy have devoted a large part of their lives to developing their communities. Farm To Market is just another means to that end. The grocery involves local growers, and all the produce(from apples to zucchini) are grown in and around Austin. Farm To Market also sells handmade cards and an assortment of gift items. Make a suggestion and the grocery will stock it. The flower stand outside the store catches your attention; enter, and one's greeted with warm smiles and hugs. If there's anything that embodies the phrase "of the people, by the people, for the people", it's Farm To Market.

Check out the Fish taco and the Queso flameado, or the El Presiendto (no guessing for who orders this), Chicken breast taco, a Beef taco, Tamale and Guacamole.
