The name of this CD and vinyl shop might as well be Rap Mania, with the largest selection of that particular genre in Austin. Everything under one roof |
2525 W Anderson Ln Austin, TX 78757 United States +1 512 451 9311 |
Consider this north Austin mall as an alternative to the colder, more impersonal mega-malls that have become standard in recent years. This shopping center is a bit cozier, with some unusual finds inside. Despite its smaller size, though, shoppers will still be able to browse department stores like Oshman's and Bealls, or catch a movie at the resident theater. In addition, the mall offers the only ice skating rink in town, and is home to specialty shops such as Gamefellas, Lammes Candies, and Guitar Center, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts. Recycled rain! |
2770 Highway 290 West Tank Town World Headquarters Austin, TX 78620 United States +1 512 894 0861 http://www.rainwatercollection... |
The first reaction to Richard's Rainwater is shock, then surprise and awe and finally a feel-good smile. Richard Heinichen was thirsty. He did what most of us wouldn't. Catch rainwater before it hits the ground(through a non-chlorinated closed loop system of pipes and filters, for those interested), purified it, bottled it and voilĂ ! Recycled bottled "cloud juice", as pure as it gets. Word's gotten out about his ingeniously simple enterprise and people from all around don't mind driving out to Tank Town World Headquarters (Richard's bottling facility) to buy a case or two. Sure, it's more convenient to order bottles online, but who wouldn't want to shake Richard's hand? Review © 2007, Wcities |

DJ's delight |
505 West Mary St Austin, TX 78704 United States +1 512 462 2568 |
A focus on Dance Club and International music and DJ supplies keeps this place hopping from open to close. Count on hearing some of the latest Hip Hop and Trance or even wedding DJ classics like "The Chicken Dance" while you shop. These folks cater to DJ's and nightclubs, but they are not above discussing the relative merits of plush leopard print custom velvet slip pads with a novice scratch-master wanna-be. You can also find a nice assortment of picture disks and a huge selection of Latin, tejano, salsa, merengue and disco. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classic, cult and foreign flicks |
609 West 29th St Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 478 5325 http://www.vulcanvideo.com |
With an excellent collection of B-movies, cult classics, musicals, low-budget horror pictures, foreign films and a variety of videos you will not find at the chain stores, this is a movie-lover's paradise. Peruse the "director's wall" for films grouped by director; if you are looking for a silent film, this eclectic shop has one of the best selections in town. Staff suggestions are located throughout the store if you are having trouble deciding on which flick to rent. Most of the employees are huge film fans and know their business, so if you have questions about a rare movie, this is a great place to start. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Special orders, local music and much more |
600 North Lamar Blvd Austin, TX 78703 United States +1 512 474 2500 http://www.waterloorecords.com |
For over 20 years, this has been one of Austin's favorite record stores. Why? The selection of music is unbeatable. Shoppers will find every genre of music here, including current popular favorites and many Texas artists. Waterloo has supported the local music community for years, allowing bands a place to sell their handmade tapes, vinyl and CD's. The store is also famous for its large selection of imports and world music. If you are looking for music that is a little off the beaten path, this is a good place to start. From Rock to Reggae, Punk to Experimental, Hip-Hop to Country and Blues to Noise, you will find it all right here. If you are not sure what you are looking for, grab a set of headphones at one of the listening stations and sample anything your heart desires. The shop also carries a great selection of music-related books, magazines, posters, and T-shirts. You will also find an excellent blank tape and CDR selection with pro-recording tapes available.
