The wine list features more than 200 excellent selections, primarily from small American vintners, and the entrees are hearty, flavorful and created specifically to accompany certain wines. Helen's Garden

Jewel of a bistro
2908 O'Donnell Street
Baltimore, MD 21224
United States
+1 410 276 2233
http://www.helensgarden.com/V2/
This tiny jewel of a bistro does many things very well. On one hand, it is a great coffee bar. On the other hand, it is a dandy wine bar, with a list that's affordable and eclectic. Then again, it is a vegetarian restaurant, boasting items like the La Luna (eggplant, greens and provolone wrapped in a pesto flatbread!). However, the seafood entrees are the best. Finally, the downstairs is a bustling café, and the upstairs a cozy, candle-lit, folk-art styled hide-away.

Sabatino's

Familiar Italian dishes expertly done
901 Fawn Street
Baltimore, MD 21202
United States
+1 410 727 9414 / +1 410 727 2667
http://www.sabatinos.com
The pleasantly straightforward, starched-linen and fresh-flower atmosphere at this Little Italy landmark lets you know that you're in an old-school restaurant. The menu is full of old favorites - Ravioli and a Veal Parmesan that's truly noteworthy. Even the house specialties, such as the legendary Bookmaker Salad - shrimp, salami and provolone topped with a cheese dressing over crisp iceberg lettuce - has a comfortable familiarity. The chef isn't breaking any new ground here, but then again, why try to improve on the classics?
