Named for a tall, slender flower native to South Africa, Ixia lives up to its namesake of exotic delicacy. The blue color scheme creates a cool, sophisticated atmosphere to offset Ixia's chic menu. Dishes like Southern Fried Pecan Crusted Chicken and Wasabi Pea Crusted Wild Salmon give American dishes a European and Asian flair. Some restaurants are so successful for so long that the local food-lovers start taking them for granted. Such is the case with this downtown Baltimore institution, which is a shame. Although its days as an innovator may be long gone, and its dishes may be more than a touch milder than those coming from more adventurous kitchens, the Maison can still turn out fabulous meals. It still looks great, with mint green and white walls and enormous chandeliers. Try the Lobster Cardinale for something truly memorable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Witness the extensive and creative array of fresh salads, soups, pizzas, noodle dishes and sandwiches. The Grilled Salmon Club delivers more enjoyment than you'd even think to ask from a sandwich. Similarly, the environment is more than you'd expect from a casual lunch-spot. The soothing lemon-yellow walls, high ceilings and comfortable couches are just the ticket for unwinding after a hectic morning. Sascha's also serves dinner. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Shula's Steakhouse, a chain steak and seafood restaurant, is one of the most popular steakhouses in Baltimore. Opened by former Miami Dolphins coaches Don and Dave Shula, Shula's can be found in 25 different locations all over the nation severing premium steaks, fresh seafood, and extravagant wines and martinis. This elegant, one of a kind steakhouse creates a luminous atmosphere with its dim lighting, leather bound seats, marble-top bars, and fine wood furnishing. Shula's is famous for its 48 oz. Porterhouse steak and their 3-5 lb. live Maine lobster, their two most popular entrees. For a side meal, try Shula's Beefsteak Tomatoes and Gorgonzola Salad, or a savoring Baked Potato. If you have room for dessert, the Chocolate Souffle for two is a mouth-watering treat. Shula is also available for small parties and banquets. Reservations are suggested. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fine Italian fare |
405 N Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21201 United States +1 410 625 0534 http://www.sottosoprainc.com/ |
This elegant restaurant features floor-to-ceiling murals of cafe scenes and gilded mirrors. The owners redecorated the dining room in the mid-90s; only the cracked tile floor is original. To start, try a half-order of the Gnocchi in red pepper sauce or sample from the Tapas Bar. For a main course, the thin-crusted pizza is a nice choice. Made with homemade sauce and topped with mozzarella, it is a gourmet delight. For dessert, choose from truffles, fresh fruit served with ice cream and Profiteroles with chocolate sauce. Stylish Italian cuisine |

Long one of Little Italy's best-kept secrets, this tiny restaurant is growing more popular all the time, particularly with the city's younger set. The freshest ingredients are handled here with gusto and zest, but also with subtlety, which gives new life to the standard roster of veal, chicken, seafood and pasta dishes. The décor is elegant and romantic, with candles flickering on beautiful marble tabletops. The wine list is extensive, and the staff knowledgeable and unobtrusive. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tiny but wonderful Thai cafe |
804 North Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21201-5308 United States +1 410 752 5857 |
It's a shame this place is so small. Literally tucked away in a corner of Mount Vernon, it deserves to be much bigger. Not that the management doesn't do the most with the available space. Its four-table dining area is decorated very tastefully, and Thai prints adorn the walls. But the food, delicious Thai staples like Pad Thai, Lemon Grass soup, and a fantastic Chicken Marmasan, really deserve a more luxurious setting. As it is, it makes for a great carryout lunch or dinner option. Review © 2007, Wcities |

For Ireland with an American twang, make a visit to the Tir Na Nog Bar & Grill. Furnished with pieces shipped from Irish churches and cathedrals and plush textiles, the place has captured all the charms of a typical Irish pub. Executive Chef Matthew Geraghty has taken typical Irish grub and mixed it up with contemporary American cuisine. Grab a pint of chilled beer and feast on fare like the Roasted Trout and Irish Bacon or the Tír na nÓg Shepherd's Pie. Or try the savories from the bar menu. Take a date to eat by the fireplace, chat with the friendly bartenders or come in for a relaxed brunch, whatever suits your mood! Review © 2007, Wcities |

The restaurant gets its name from 'tugboat', and the gastronomic creations available here are as varied as the waves. The ambience sinks in as one walks into warm colored interiors with TV screens and a glass partition between the bar and dining area. An aquarium and a fully-stocked, deep-colored wood bar break through the design. You guessed it - seafood is the specialty here, and the fun is in trying out some innovative treats, such as mussels in your beer, Cream of Crab Soup and Filet Mignon. Those who prefer meat can select from the array of steaks on the menu. The only thing that can beat all of this is the recently introduced free wireless internet service, their way of thanking guests! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located a short stroll from the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, this casual restaurant makes a great post-show destination. Decorated in cool pastel shades and sporting some very comfortable booths, the dining room is as amenable to good conversation as it is to fine dining. The Italian portion of the menu offers a selection of salads and pastas. Fish, meat and fowl, prepared in an Asian or Southwestern manner, complete the menu. The Swordfish with Lump Crabmeat in Lime and Chili Sauce is great. Review © 2007, Wcities |
