Set in a tiny rowhouse in Charles Village, this family-run eatery offers traditional American Deli fare, but specializes in Ukrainian and Balkan dishes. Here you'll find Clam Chowder as well as Borscht, Kosher hotdogs as well as Bitockhi (steak) and Blueberry Pie as well as Cake Kiev (a dried fruit and meringue extravaganza). There's also a very nice, inexpensive wine list, and, of course, a great selection of coffee. The décor brings to mind a turn-of-the-century parlor, and the staff is relaxed and friendly.

Add to the décor live musicians playing beautiful melodies on violin and piano, and you have an atmosphere guaranteed to lower your heart rate and raise your spirits. The traditional Russian foods like Borscht and Blinis are as perfectly done and lovely as their surroundings, as are the freshly made desserts. There's nothing here that sings "Baltimore," but it sings nonetheless.

It also offers 17 espresso drinks and half-a-dozen flavored coffees, all at moderate prices, as well as a broad menu of Eastern European items like Borscht and Pierogies. Many visitors insist the coffeehouse is worth visiting just to have a spoonful of Russian Apple Soup - small bowls of amber heaven.
