Aldo's Ristorante Italiano

A beautiful dining experience
306 South High Street
Baltimore, MD 21202
United States
+1 410 727 0700
http://www.aldositaly.com
sergio@aldositaly.com
This lovely addition to Little Italy's restaurant scene specializes in the traditional cooking of Southern Italy, and a typical meal might include an appetizer of Fried Calamari, followed by the delectable Veal Scaloppine topped with a tasty Cannoli. But simply listing these old favorites doesn't do justice to this jewel of a restaurant, with its tuxedoed waiters, fresh cut roses and intimate dining rooms. The setting is very quiet and very romantic. Jackets are recommended for men.

This Roland Park mainstay has been a local favorite since 1931. For an appetizer, consider Little Neck Clams, Mussles Marinerre or Bruschetta. Then satisfy your craving for a cheeseburger or a thin-crusted pizza topped with roasted vegetables, chicken or shrimp. Sandwiches and calzones are also on the menu, along with a list of wonderful entrees - Grilled Lamb Sirloin, Roast Breast of Free Range Chicken, and a Crab Cake platter. In addition to great food, this restaurant also has great beer menu - 50 bottled beers and six on draft.

This cozy Northeast Baltimore restaurant has occupied the same spot for almost 50 years. The downstairs is an Irish pub, well-stocked with Guinness and Harp. Upstairs, patrons will find a modest dining room specializing in Italian dishes. (Try the Seafood Spaghetti.) So what keeps an Italian/Irish establishment running for half a century in Baltimore? The crab cakes, naturally. The perfectly seasoned, lump-filled patty served here are truly a cut above.

Everything in this Little Italy favorite is done with impeccable taste and sophistication. The formal décor is all polished silver, crisp linen and fresh flowers. The wait staff is quick, knowledgeable and thoroughly professional. The wine list, with an emphasis on northern Italy, is superb. And the food is a delight. The veal chops are amazing: gigantic pieces of tender meat seasoned perfectly with rosemary and a hint of lemon.

The atmosphere of this restaurant makes it a standout among Little Italy's many fine dining establishments. It boasts several small, cozy dining rooms that are modestly yet elegantly decorated. In these intimate spaces, all distractions fade away, allowing patrons to concentrate exclusively on the wonderful details in the cuisine. Certain dishes, such as the Veal Saltimbocca (a piece of tender veal under a blanket of mozzarella and prosciutto) practically become worlds unto themselves. The pace is leisurely, so allow yourself plenty of time.

From soup to sauce, everything at this family-owned Italian favorite is made fresh daily. Add to that its fancy but not too formal decor, its friendly staff and its jovial neighborhood-hangout atmosphere, and you'll see why it's become a midtown institution. All the Italian standbys are well represented here, and their crab cakes are so popular that they actually sell packets of the mix. Located just minutes from Center Stage, it's a great choice for a pre-curtain meal.

This perennial favorite, located in Baltimore's delightful Little Italy neighborhood, specializes in very basic seafood dishes. All entrees are prepared to absolute perfection and artfully presented. The well-seasoned Antipasto with mussels and calamari is a perfect example - not fancy, but memorable nevertheless. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, and the exposed brick walls give the dining room a homey feel. Prices are moderate, and the service is first-rate. Be sure to ask about the daily specials.

Locals rave about this Little Italy favorite and it's martini lounge, where your favorite drink is served well chilled. The bartender recommends 'The 007' Smirnoff vodka with a twist- shaken, not stirred. For dinner, try a signature dish, such as the Shrimp de Stephano, butterfly shrimp stuffed with crab imperial and served with fettuccine in a creamy shrimp sauce, or the New York Strip Black Angus, a 16-ounce steak cooked to order. One expects Italian restaurants to be romantic, and this Little Italy favorite certainly delivers. Its intimate dinning rooms are candle-lit and filled with fresh flowers, and the outdoor balcony seating is a near perfect setting for romance. But one doesn't always expect an Italian restaurant to be diet-friendly. In this arena too, Dalesio's delivers. The menu features many low-calorie and low-cholesterol entrées, like Grilled Shrimp and Penne Piemontese, which are perfectly healthy, yet still pack enough flavor to be worthy of Little Italy.

A newcomer to Little Italy, this spirited restaurant does Italian cuisine with a bit of modern flair, and the emphasis is on seafood. Here the tortelloni is stuffed with ground grouper as well as ricotta cheese, and the list of specials is more likely to include tuna than veal. The Insalata Di Mare, a shrimp, clam, scallop, squid and mussel salad with an orange flavored dressing, is a must. Some restaurants are so successful for so long that the local food-lovers start taking them for granted. Such is the case with this downtown Baltimore institution, which is a shame. Although its days as an innovator may be long gone, and its dishes may be more than a touch milder than those coming from more adventurous kitchens, the Maison can still turn out fabulous meals. It still looks great, with mint green and white walls and enormous chandeliers. Try the Lobster Cardinale for something truly memorable.

There's a giant mural stretching across the façade of this Italian bar/restaurant, celebrating the splendor of food. The interior is equally appealing, with bold colors and antique furnishings. The owners of this Canton favorite saved plenty of creativity for the menu. They offer 16 different sauces, for instance, including an amazing Mussels Pomodoro sauce. And besides a full range of brick oven pizzas, they also offer challenging dishes like the Portabello Napoleon, a large mushroom stuffed with layers of crab meat, red peppers, fontina and artichoke hearts.

The huge metal and glass awning and ivy-covered entranceway may be imposing, but the atmosphere inside this spacious, colorful restaurant is casual and friendly. The kitchen here may not be as creative as others in Baltimore's Little Italy, but the dishes (mostly old favorites like Minestrone, Chicken Parmigiana and Saltimbocca) are well prepared, beautifully presented and moderately priced.
