A beautiful dining experience |
306 South High Street Baltimore, MD 21202 United States +1 410 727 0700 http://www.aldositaly.com |
This lovely addition to Little Italy's restaurant scene specializes in the traditional cooking of Southern Italy, and a typical meal might include an appetizer of Fried Calamari, followed by the delectable Veal Scaloppine topped with a tasty Cannoli. But simply listing these old favorites doesn't do justice to this jewel of a restaurant, with its tuxedoed waiters, fresh cut roses and intimate dining rooms. The setting is very quiet and very romantic. Jackets are recommended for men. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eat mussels at Bertha's |
734 South Broadway Fells Point Baltimore, MD 21231 United States +1 410 327 5795 http://berthas.com/ |
In Baltimore, Bertha's means the blues - and mussels to beat the band. Offered with your choice of eight sauces, Bertha's Mussels are plump, tender, and steamed just right. For years this Fells Point landmark has been giving out green bumper stickers that simply state: "Eat Bertha's Mussels." The rest of the seafood entrees are also very good. They, too, boast fresh ingredients and a sure touch. The décor is warm and funky, the atmosphere lively, and, on weekends, even rowdy. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Seafood and Steaks |

For fresh seafood, Blue Sea Grill is the place that offers something 'cool, fresh and raw' for everyone. It's a trendy and a popular restaurant. The unusual decor with its aqua blue lighting, hazy grays, and wave-like motif give patrons an at-sea experience. The restaurant hosts happy hours from 5-7p, and accomodates 240 guests for banquets. Elegant, sophisticated Italian restaurant |
925 Eastern Avenue Baltimore, MD 21202 United States +1 410 234 1322 http://www.boccaccio-restauran... |
Everything in this Little Italy favorite is done with impeccable taste and sophistication. The formal décor is all polished silver, crisp linen and fresh flowers. The wait staff is quick, knowledgeable and thoroughly professional. The wine list, with an emphasis on northern Italy, is superb. And the food is a delight. The veal chops are amazing: gigantic pieces of tender meat seasoned perfectly with rosemary and a hint of lemon. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Venerable Baltimore dining institution |
924 North Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21201 United States +1 410 547 8485 http://www.brasselephant.com |
Set in an elegant rowhouse near the center of town, this first-class restaurant has long been a Baltimore institution. The décor is simple and dignified but the meals are luxurious. Even basic dishes such as Roast Duck and Filet Mignon are done so well as to become truly memorable. And of course, the seafood is impeccable. Add to this a thoroughly professional wait staff, wonderful desserts and an extensive wine list, and it becomes clear why this is the kind of restaurant people come back to time and again. Baltimore-style hospitality |
1002 W 36th Street Baltimore, MD 21211 United States +1 410 243 1230 http://www.cafehon.com |
There is an informal tradition among Baltimore waitresses to address customers as 'Hon.' (Pronounced to rhyme with 'bun.') Over the years, the term has come to symbolize the town's casual hospitality, and as such, it suits this friendly café perfectly. Located in Hampden, it has the ambiance of a suburban kitchen circa 1955, and the menu fits the décor just right. Dishes like Four Cheese Lasagna and 'Much Better Than Mom's' Meatloaf are guaranteed to stick to your ribs, and the Crabcake Platter does Baltimore proud. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Moderately-priced Italian cuisine |
237 South High Street Baltimore, MD 21202 United States +1 410 837 0309 http://www.chiapparellis.com/ |
This perennial favorite, located in Baltimore's delightful Little Italy neighborhood, specializes in very basic seafood dishes. All entrees are prepared to absolute perfection and artfully presented. The well-seasoned Antipasto with mussels and calamari is a perfect example - not fancy, but memorable nevertheless. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, and the exposed brick walls give the dining room a homey feel. Prices are moderate, and the service is first-rate. Be sure to ask about the daily specials. Very romantic destination |
217 South High Street Baltimore, MD 21202 United States +1 410 727 6876 http://baltimoreitalianrestaur... |
This exuberant Italian restaurant is big and usually packed. But its soft colors are lit so perfectly that when you are sitting at one of the candle-lit tables, it seems intimate. The food is classic. Try the Seafood Ravioli in lobster cream sauce or the Veal Tenderloin. And if you have a favorite Italian specialty, call ahead and the chef will prepare it for you. The owners will even send a limo to pick you up at your downtown hotel. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Very romantic Italian restaurant |
829 Eastern Avenue Little Italy Baltimore, MD 21202 United States +1 410 539 1965 http://www.dalesios.com/ |
One expects Italian restaurants to be romantic, and this Little Italy favorite certainly delivers. Its intimate dinning rooms are candle-lit and filled with fresh flowers, and the outdoor balcony seating is a near perfect setting for romance. But one doesn't always expect an Italian restaurant to be diet-friendly. In this arena too, Dalesio's delivers. The menu features many low-calorie and low-cholesterol entrées, like Grilled Shrimp and Penne Piemontese, which are perfectly healthy, yet still pack enough flavor to be worthy of Little Italy. Jewel of a bistro |
2908 O'Donnell Street Baltimore, MD 21224 United States +1 410 276 2233 http://www.helensgarden.com/V2/ |
This tiny jewel of a bistro does many things very well. On one hand, it is a great coffee bar. On the other hand, it is a dandy wine bar, with a list that's affordable and eclectic. Then again, it is a vegetarian restaurant, boasting items like the La Luna (eggplant, greens and provolone wrapped in a pesto flatbread!). However, the seafood entrees are the best. Finally, the downstairs is a bustling café, and the upstairs a cozy, candle-lit, folk-art styled hide-away. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Quirky, inexpensive fare |
1222 Hull Street Baltimore, MD 21230 United States +1 410 727 7476 http://www.hullstreetblues.com/ |
This charming restaurant in South Baltimore's Locust Point began as a saloon in 1889. Today, it's an elegant cafe with an attached bar. The eclectic menu focuses on seafood - from Shrimp Scampi to Steamed Mussels - though other gourmet dishes are also offered. Try the savory Filet Mignon or Chicken Oreganato, a boneless breast of chicken prepared with fresh oregano, tomatoes, olive oil and white wine. The proprietors, Kathy and Dan Macatee, take special pride in their Sunday brunch - a smorgasbord packed with tasty treats. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Lovely Greek seafood |

Located in the historic but funky Fells Point neighborhood, Kali's Court brings a Greek sensibility to traditional Maryland seafood favorites, there's Orzo pasta floating in the crab soup, for example. With its high-ceilings and darkly polished furnishings, this fine restaurant has a casual elegance that makes it as appropriate for a romantic evening as well as for a friendly night out. Kali's also boasts a lovely brick courtyard for al fresco dining, but be sure to call ahead and reserve a table. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh seafood, delightful Japanese cuisine |
413 North Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21202 United States +1 410 659 7600 http://kawasaki-restaurant.com/ |
Named after Baltimore's sister city, this is the city's oldest continuously open Japanese restaurant. Paper lanterns and rows of chopsticks in a handsome glass case add an air of authenticity to the decor. For starters, try an intriguing combination of sushi, chef's choice. If you're not willing to leave your palette in the chef's hands, order the smoked salmon or raw tuna rolls. For an entree, consider the vegetarian sushi dinner or the Chicken Katsu, white meat fried to a golden brown. Cash is accepted also. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Offbeat French and Creole cuisine |
1708 Aliceanna Street Fells Point Baltimore, MD 21231 United States +1 410 327 2610 |
This quiet, elegant restaurant boasts an African mahogany bar, wrought iron fixtures and handsome chandeliers. Here, the chef offers a seamless blend of Creole and French creations. Blackened meats, such as the Blackened Buffalo Delmonico, are a specialty. Not in the mood for steak? Try the succulent Shrimp-and-Corn Gumbo. Served with rice and Broccolini, it may be the best dish on the menu. The restaurant also offers great service, a fine wine list and incredible desserts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great variety of Indian dishes |
920 North Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21201 United States +1 410 547 0001 http://www.mughalgarden.com |
This downtown establishment is distinguished chiefly by the size of its menu. In addition to the typical Vindaloos, Saag and Kebabs, you'll find a fantastic Mulligatawny Soup, a great Salmon Tikka and a Tandoori Lobster that is one of the best seafood entrees in town. Many of these appear on the daily all-you-can-eat buffet, but you'll need to peruse the menu to see everything that is offered. The spacious dining room is modest but inviting, and the atmosphere is very casual. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A summertime visit to Baltimore isn't complete without sampling the local delicacy: Steamed Blue Crabs. One of the best of the very many places specializing in the tasty crustaceans is this downtown institution. Since 1944, this casual, friendly restaurant has been covering its dining room tables with paper and serving piles of crabs, steamed perfectly and dusted with a unique black pepper spice. A variety of great entrees, including crab cakes and a terrific Crab Imperial, are also offered. Be sure to make a reservation! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Familiar Italian dishes expertly done |
901 Fawn Street Baltimore, MD 21202 United States +1 410 727 9414 / +1 410 727 2667 http://www.sabatinos.com |
The pleasantly straightforward, starched-linen and fresh-flower atmosphere at this Little Italy landmark lets you know that you're in an old-school restaurant. The menu is full of old favorites - Ravioli and a Veal Parmesan that's truly noteworthy. Even the house specialties, such as the legendary Bookmaker Salad - shrimp, salami and provolone topped with a cheese dressing over crisp iceberg lettuce - has a comfortable familiarity. The chef isn't breaking any new ground here, but then again, why try to improve on the classics? Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fine Italian fare |
405 N Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21201 United States +1 410 625 0534 http://www.sottosoprainc.com/ |
This elegant restaurant features floor-to-ceiling murals of cafe scenes and gilded mirrors. The owners redecorated the dining room in the mid-90s; only the cracked tile floor is original. To start, try a half-order of the Gnocchi in red pepper sauce or sample from the Tapas Bar. For a main course, the thin-crusted pizza is a nice choice. Made with homemade sauce and topped with mozzarella, it is a gourmet delight. For dessert, choose from truffles, fresh fruit served with ice cream and Profiteroles with chocolate sauce.
