Montjüic Hill, in the southwest of the city, offers many attractions including the Olympic stadium and other facilities used for the 1992 Olympic Games, along with the impressive Fundació Miró. The best way to reach the summit is to take the cable car from the nearby harbor. The eastern side of the hill is almost a sheer cliff, giving it a commanding view over the city's harbor immediately below. The top of the hill (a height of 173 meters) was the site of several fortifications, the latest of which (the Castell de Montjuïc) remains today. The site was selected to host the 1929 International Exposition (a World's Fair), for which the first large-scale construction on the hill was begun. Review © 2009, Wcities |
