This is an elegant house that is situated behind high walls and built in the early part of the 19th century. Legend has it that the hotel was built for the Duke of Wellington, and whether or not this is true, it is certainly fit for a king - or a duke - today! The interior decoration is in accordance with the age of the house as are the fine paintings, antique furniture and overall ambience. Despite its lofty elegance, a warm welcome and hearty breakfast is assured and evening meals are available. For the more energetic, it should be noted that there is car parking if you wish to leave your car and stroll the mile or so into Bath's city centre. Review © 2007, Wcities |

If you've always fancied being Lord of the Manor, this is the place for you. Although it looks like a small castle, Bath Lodge Hotel was actually the former Gate House to Farleigh Manor and Castle and was built in 1806. The building is situated in five acres of gardens and forest and although it is about seven miles from Bath, it does have its advantages - one of these being plentiful parking. All bedrooms are en-suite and incorporate some aspect of the building, such as exposed beams and stonework. When the weather allows, a large open fire roars in the lounge. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Unusually for Bath, the Bath Tasburgh is brick-built in a city that is predominantly constructed of Bath stone. However, this is still an attractive building and is situated far enough from the A36 to be convenient but not noisy. Although only a short distance from Bath city centre, its extensive gardens stretch down to the Kennet and Avon canal and there are glorious views of the countryside beyond. A house of much historical interest and actually situated above a tunnel built in the 19th century by the great Victorian railway engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. At one time the house used to shake slightly as a train passed beneath it, though this happens less often nowadays! An attractive house and situated in an attractive part of the village of Saltford, it's just a few hundred yards from a very scenic part of the River Avon. One of the oldest inns in England |
High Street Norton Saint Philip Bath, North East Somerset BA3 6LH United Kingdom +44 1373 83 4224 http://www.thegeorgeinn-nsp.co.uk |
It is alleged that this site has held a licence since the 12th century, when monks brewed beers and wines from their own home-grown produce. That would make it one of the oldest inns in England. The Duke of Monmouth stayed here in 1685 when someone supposedly took a pot shot at him. The musket ball is still said to be lodged in one of the window frames. Following the rebellion, 'Hanging Judge Jefferies' also stayed here - erecting a gallows out in the yard! It's certainly come on a bit since then. Each room has all modern comforts yet the rooms retain their medieval character. The inn itself offers good food and beer plus fine wines. Disabled visitors are welcome and special breaks are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The oldest hotel in Bath |
Lansdown Road Bath, North East Somerset BA1 5EH United Kingdom http://www.marstonhotels.co.uk |
Because it is situated in a turning about half way up Lansdown Hill, guests can be assured of a pretty fair view of the city from the front windows. Parking, and the reception area are at the front of the hotel; the fact that there are superb gardens at the rear is hardly noticeable. Built in Georgian times, the Lansdown Grove has been renovated in recent times to something approaching its past elegance when it was, so legend has it, the first hotel in Bath. A lift is available for those unable to manage the stairs. It is perfectly feasible to walk down Lansdown Hill into the centre of the city. Warminster Road Bathampton Bath, North East Somerset BA2 6XG United Kingdom +44 1225 466115 |
This is a modern, purpose built establishment situated on the main Bath to Warminster Road. There is ample room here to leave the car behind and perhaps take a bus to the city centre, which is only about one mile away. All rooms are en suite and offer everything the modern traveller expects. Once you have visited the city and seen all the sights you wish to, you shouldn't miss walking down to the canal that runs through the heart of Bathampton. Pretty rose-covered cottages cluster close to the canal that were once home to the boatmen and lock keepers. There are also two waterside pub/restaurants. Rates for special breaks are available on request. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional establishment in the heart of the city |
11 Marlborough Lane Bath BA1 2NQ United Kingdom +44 (0)1225 42 9444 http://www.parksidebandb.co.uk/ |
This is another of those establishments lucky enough to be situated close to the Royal Crescent. A stroll through Royal Victoria Park and you will find yourself in the heart of the city. In one direction is the Roman Baths, the Abbey, Pulteney Bridge, the Theatre Royal and the city's thriving shopping centre. In the other direction are The Costume Museum and The Assembly Rooms. But Parkside does not rely on location alone to entice visitors; they offer a superb choice of breakfasts, catering for vegetarians and relying on mainly organic produce. These are served in a pretty dining room overlooking the garden. The rooms, although not exceptional, are clean and comfortable. Centrally located, yet away from the crowds. Altogether excellent value for money. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italianate Victorian villa |
Sydney Road Bath, North East Somerset BA2 6NT United Kingdom +44 1225 469267 |
Adjoining the Kennet and Avon canal where brightly colored narrow boats and pleasure craft still glide gracefully by, Ravenscroft is a spacious house but offers only two letting rooms. Thus, guests can be assured of a warm welcome and the personal attention of the proprietors. The house dates from Victorian times and is built to resemble an Italian villa but with 19th century proportions. This establishment offers great value for money and is situated in a fine area of the city, just a flat walk from all the attractions. Like a large number of other smaller establishments, Ravenscroft is closed over the Christmas period. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Guests can wander in mature, secluded gardens and take in the wonderful views over the city, which is within walking distance for those disinclined to take the car. Bath University is not too far away for those with business there. Please note that Ravenscroft is closed over the Christmas period. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Attractive guest house in the heart of the city |
9 Charlotte Street Bath BA1 2NE United Kingdom +44 (0)1225 42 4193 |
Flagstones and ancient iron railings adorn the area immediately in front of this centrally situated establishment. Georgian and in the heart of the city, this historic house, typical of many from that period, is presented with your comfort in mind. Guests are less than a minutes walk from Victoria Park and the Theatre Royal. Although it does not have its own car park, there is parking at the rear of the premises. The rooms are far from plush, but are clean and comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in each room and the establishment is open all year. Romany offers exceptional value accommodation in a fairly quiet part of the city centre, so booking well in advance is highly recommended. Children from age seven upwards are welcome.
