It is big and airy inside, with lots of white walls and plants. Claustrophobics will feel at ease. Connoisseurs of good Hunan cuisine will be at ease as well with such specialties as Crispy Szechuan Beef, Tsing Tao Chicken, and a very delicious Prawns with Hot Garlic Sauce. Long Life Vegi House

Live a long life
2129 University Avenue
Berkeley, CA 94704
United States
+1 510 845 6072
The decor here is odd, yet the wood paneling is somehow comforting as you sit beneath the immense paper lanterns and the giant swordfish. Long Life believes a veggie diet is the secret to a long life, and its expansive menu is testament to the fact that the taste and skill of authentic Chinese cuisine can be delicious and inexpensive. It offers soy protein dishes and wheat gluten like Kung Pao Vegi Beef. The seafood is real, however, and includes Lobster Creamed Sauce Prawns. It offers a weekend Dim Sum brunch where dumplings and buns can be had for pennies.

Quickeley

Taiwanese tapioca drinks
2552 Bancroft Way
Berkeley, CA 94704
United States
No one is really quite sure when, why or how the tapioca drink craze hit Berkeley back in the 90s. This is one of the few places that only sells these Taiwanese drinkable delicacies. This is a small, ice cream bar-like atmosphere covered in pop Asian kitsch from Hello Kitty to Pokemon. The drink menu is so large and extensive, it rivals any store of its kind in the area. Flavors include flavors coconut, red bean, mango, red plum and it also serves Double Rainbow ice cream, sushi box lunches and fish paste snacks.

Shen Hua

Best Chinese in Elmwood
2914 College Avenue
Berkeley, CA 94705
United States
+1 510 883 1777
If you are in the Bay area, a visit to Shen Hua is a must. Known for its Szechwan preparations, the eatery serves the best Chinese food in the area. The menu offers a good variety in dishes and the food served is fresh, well-flavored, and always arrives quickly to your table. Patrons would recommend the Prawns a la Shen Hua and Cashew Chicken. The cocktails served are decent, and go well with the food. The restaurant gets crowded, so make sure you reach there in time!

Vegi Food China

Healthy Chinese food
2083 Vine Street
(2085 Vine Street next door)
Berkeley, CA 94709
United States
+1 510 548 5244
Inside this nondescript, all-vegetarian Chinese restaurant, you will find an informal yet comfortable setting with daily specials tacked up on the blue walls, and some traditional lanterns and statuary. The owner strongly believes in the health benefits of a vegetarian diet (as the news clippings posted to the door will attest) and in having everything fresh and bursting with seasonal goodness. Try vegetarian variations on old favorites, including Chow Mein, Lo Mein and combinations like the Black Mushroom and Greens or Braised Eggplant. For those who miss the texture of meat, there are many dishes made with bean gluten. Cash only.

Yu Ying Garden

Chinese from the 70s
2025 Shattuck Avenue
Berkeley, CA 94704
United States
+1 510 848 4849
This restaurant brings back memories of those grand Chinese restaurants from yore. The kind where you walk in and find a water pond and wild foliage to one side, dark wood walls to another, well worn red booths, golden dragons observing you as you dine and waiters in smart red vests with embroidery. Not many of these gems left, for those who consider them gems. Enjoy Northern Chinese and Mandarin cuisine here. Entrees include Bean Curd Beef, General Tsao's Chicken and Sea Cucumber with Pork, and Calamari with Black Bean Sauce. Many vegetarian selections are also available.
