East Bay Gourmet |
1782 4th Street Berkeley, CA 94710 United States +1 510 525 1440 http://www.caferouge.net |
Cafe Rouge, located in the heart of Berkeley's hoppin' 4th Street shopping district, is an East Bay institution. Foodies flock from far and wide for treats as simple as a cheeseburger and as complex as a Mediterranean-style lamb shank entree. Menu items are rotated in and out of circulation every couple weeks, so expect to see new and exciting things every time you visit. Shellfish fans marvel at the massive oyster selection (officially celebrated at the weekly Oyster Wednesday party). Cafe Rouge is also well known for the quality of its meats, all of which come from the finest local and regional producers, and many of which are available for takeaway at the on-site Meat Market (where you'll also find all manner of cured meats, pates, terrines and sausages). See website for menus, wine lists and more. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hidden under the Carquinez Bridge, The Nantucket may be a little difficult for newcomers to find. It serves up delicious seafood in a friendly and informal atmosphere - ask for the Italian-style Fisherman's Soup, prepared with fresh crabs, prawns, clams, scallops, and stewed with tomatoes, garlic and herbs. Also try the Clam Chowder, a house specialty. All entrees are complimented by your choice of salad or soup. Service is efficient, and the friendly waitresses guide you through the extensive wine list. Review © 2007, Wcities |

New York Steaks |
1974 Shattuck Avenue Berkeley, CA 94704 United States +1 510 841 7225 |
Make sure you stop by at Spats the next time you're in Berkeley. Whoopi Goldberg and Robbin Williams do so when they're in town. There's lots to choose from here - Seafood, Steak, Pasta, and Italian food. It is however most popular for its New York Steaks. Also worth trying is the grilled trout. And don't forget to enjoy the meal with a glass of wine or one of the yummy cocktails. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Barbecue without the Bib |
1300 Tenth Street (Cross St. Gilman) Berkeley, California 94710 United States +1 510 527 0099 http://www.t-rex-bbq.com |
In the laid back academic town of Berkeley, California there are few things that bring about competition like food. Every major street is dotted with unique restaurants showcasing cuisines from through out the world, as well as those that fuse exotic tastes together and make them palatable for common American taste buds. Of all the competition there is one that truly embodies Berkeley's passion for exciting food, that is Gilman Street's T-Rex Barbecue. Founded in 2005 by long time Bay Area Restaurateur Haig Krikorian, T-Rex has taken a modern stance on the classic barbecue joint and turned it into a sit-down restaurant that screams of class. Aside of the beautiful autumn hues and polished steel that line the interior, the main attraction is definitely the large portions of smoked meats and sides that are served daily. Local favorites include the massive long cut beef short rib or the classic baby back ribs, which are commonly paired with one of their interesting takes on standard sides like potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and corn bread. They also serve a wide array of custom cocktails, and beer cocktails that will surely compliment an entree. Whether it be for brunch, lunch, dinner, or just a drink and a light, ok, large snack, stop into T-Rex for delicious barbecue with Bay Area style. Review © 2007, Wcities |
