People come from miles around |
2455 Telegraph Avenue Berkeley, CA 94704 United States +1 510 549 1125 |
This destination draws music lovers from all over the Bay Area. When you first walk in, you will be overwhelmed by the vast selection of CDs, vinyl and tapes. Take a deep breath, find your area of interest, and begin. It boasts one of the largest selections of any used music store in the East Bay, and not a subject, from the most common to the most eclectic, goes uncovered. The classical section is most impressive, as is the collection of vinyl and posters. Be prepared to spend a few hours hunting and discovering. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Keeping culture alive since 1969 |
2416 Telegraph Ave Berkeley, CA 94704 United States +1 510 841 6187 http://www.annapurnaberkeley.com |
Since 1969, this place has been the subversive heart of Telegraph Avenue, providing everything from pipes to toys for grown-ups, and pumping out the sounds of Iggy Pop, and Nirvana onto the sidewalk. Inside this darkly cavernous store, you will be lucky to see an inch of black wall or ceiling for all the paraphernalia, including a huge assortment of glass, metal and water pipes, hookahs, incense and tobacco, jewelry and gnomes. It also carries various adult toys and videos, and has an impressive array of imported ethnic arts and crafts, as well as greeting and postcards. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This place stocks an international pipe selection that rivals even the institutional Annapurna up the street. You will find everything from small pocket pipes to large floor hookahs, water pipes, ceramic, metal, cut crystal and everything in between. It also features distinctly Far East paraphernalia and statues (Buddhas in many shapes and sizes), and handmade shirts, jackets and saris. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A cappucino with your symphony? |
2430 Bancroft Way Berkeley, CA 94704 United States +1 510 849 0211 http://www.musicaloffering.com/ |
Bring a portable CD player and a hankering for a cup a joe. One of the few music stores devoted to classical recordings, the Music Offering stocks everything from Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, to rare medieval chant and contemporary composers in the classical vein. And after you've bought your CD, sit down at the cafe up front and enjoy a latte and croissant. Find all the typical espresso drinks, coffee, pastries, and sandwiches made fresh daily. The space is large, airy, and accoustically perfect for the classical music over the loudspeakers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fine used books and CDs |
5560 College Avenue Berkeley, CA 94618 United States +1 510 652 6259 |
This independent bookstore, which has been around since the 1970s, has expanded considerably. Even though the shelves stretch from floor to ceiling, there is an open and airy feel to the place. Although originally a used-only store, it stocks many bestsellers and current releases. The genre section is impressive, and includes sci-fi and fantasy, art, cinema, metaphysics and a great section for children. The magazine rack is also well stocked with glossies, literary journals and local papers. The store buys mostly books in good condition, but it now buys and sells CDs as well. Fantastic selection |
2401 Telegraph Avenue Berkeley, CA 94704 United States +1 510 848 9004 |
Like its partner in music crime, Amoeba Records down the street, Rasputin's name on Telegraph Avenue connotes hours spent rifling through bins and bins of varied music. Although you will find more new and popular releases than down the street, there is a great selection of smaller and local labels promoting rap and hip hop and a small but nice used CD and vinyl area. The store is always buying items if you want to trade something old for something new. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Vinyl lover's dream |
5488 College Avenue Berkeley, CA 94618 United States +1 510 654 0335 http://www.saturnrecords.com/c... |
Spend hours flipping through bin upon bin of albums looking for that rare Bessie Smith or original Beatles Rubber Soul, this shop is your Heaven. Although it buys and sells CDs, vinyl is its passion, particularly the rare stuff. Some albums date back to the 1920s and 30s. Nevertheless, you will find a huge selection in just about every category, and maybe even a few categories you've never heard of. You could spend days just staring at the walls that are literally papered with records, from David Bowie to Baby Washington. A nice selection of music magazines and books, too.
