There are two Aedes galleries in Berlin - one in the Western city centre and a newer branch in the Eastern centre (Aedes am Pfefferberg). The original Aedes, located in the S-Bahn arches at Savignyplatz, has been a popular meeting place for architects and designers for over twenty years. But Aedes' popularity is only partly due to its informative exhibitions on contemporary architecture. Perhaps its most endearing feature is the wonderful Aedes-Café next door to the gallery - a modern yet atmospheric coffee house which rattles every time a train roars over the tracks above.
