Unter den Linden 63-65 Berlin 10117 +49 30 229 1110 http://www.russische-botschaft.de |
With its massive white facade and central location near the Reichstag, this is one building that is hard to miss. Built in 1950-1953 on the site of the former Russian Embassy building, the entire structure emanates its physical dominance over its neighbors. Plus, given the USSR's history in Germany, it was no accident that several aspects of its construction were in violation of the rules of the "Linden Statute", which regulates the size and style of the famous street's buildings. The complex, though austere on the outside, is filled with beautiful rooms, offices, and even a swimming pool. Take some time to explore the area - as you can't see very much of the building itself, which continues to stand as a firm reminder of Berlin's recent past. Review © 2009, Wcities |
