Far away from theatre town, in a part of the city rarely visited by tourists, is the Brotfabrik. A former bread factory, the building is now home to an art gallery, a cinema, theatre and bar. The programme incorporates rare and interesting works by the likes of Thomas Brasch, Botho Strauss, Carlo Goldoni and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The theatre does not have its own ensemble and thus relies upon guest companies for its productions. The 70-seat auditorium is also used for dance, performing arts, cabaret and lectures.
