Berlin's biggest arts cinema |
Kantstraße 12a Berlin, Berlin 10623 +49 (0)30 312 1026 http://www.delphi-filmpalast.de/ |
The former dancehall next to the Theater des Westens was turned into a cinema in 1949. And with 720 seats and an enormous screen, it is one of Berlin's largest arts cinemas. The Quasimodo Club in the basement is a popular venue for jazz concerts, and there's a café on the ground floor catering to thirsty cinema-goers. But the show begins before you even enter the building. The garden is full of strange obelisks and sculptures of wild beasts which glare at you through menacing eyes. And once inside, you'll have to deal with crowds of menacing Germans all racing for the best seats. Yet once you settle down in your seat, bag of popcorn in hand, you'll realise that it's been well worth the battle to get here! Review © 2009, Wcities |
