All the rooms in the basement store right on Oranienburger Straße are surveyed by video cameras, as obviously the owners don't trust their clientele very much. So Big Brother is always watching the tourists who attentively examine the multitude of picture frames and lanterns, the Christmas tree lights and the plastic bags in the style of the 60s, the rings, and necklaces and postcards. The most creative objects are the tiny steel insects with a clock-work in them that makes them walk. And then there is the darkroom full of luminous planets, strips of neon light, and ultra-violet lamps. As Oranienburger Straße is considered one of the greatest tourist attractions of the new German capital, the store is open for long hours, throughout the week. Review © 2009, Wcities |
