Once upon a time there was a backyard, grey and run-down. The paint was peeling off the walls, the buildings still littered with shrapnel marks from the War. In the basement was a simple bar where artists met to discuss life's injustices. That was then. But nowadays, this is the Kunsthof, a perfectly renovated arts and crafts centre. The walls have been rebuilt with sandstone, the window frames are painted in mint green. The courtyard is dotted with modern sculptures and fashionable boutiques selling Gucci and Versace.
