The Mehringhof is one of the central institutions of the left-alternative scene in Berlin. Its high time was in the 80s, at the time of squatting, street fightings and protest marches against the Reagan-visit and nuclear power plants. In the ex-factory building today there are various alternative projects, which all have a autonomous and grass-root-democratic structure, from a bicycle shop over the Kneipe up to the extremely successful Mehringhof-Theater, where political cabaret up to comedy and musical cabaret is performed.
