Mirror Wall Memorial

Memorial to the deportation of the Jews
Albrechtstrasse
(Hermann-Ehlers-Platz)
Berlin, Berlin 12163
+49 (0)30 25 0025 (Touristen Information)
Erected in 1994, this memorial commemorates all the Jews who were deported from the district of Steglitz to the concentration camps in Eastern Europe between 1942-45. The list contains the names, addresses and dates of birth of some 1,723 Jews, few of whom ever saw their homes again. The names are written on a mirror, which reflects the comings and goings on the street outside. The point made here seems to be that life goes on, but that there should be no forgetting. The synagogue next to the monument was destroyed by Allied bombs during the War, but has since been rebuilt.
