Viennese charm in the German capital |
Französische Straße 25 Aigner Gendarmenmarkt Berlin, Berlin 10117 +49 (0)30 2 0375 1850 http://www.aigner-gendarmenmarkt.de/ |
Atmospheric Gendarmenmarkt's flagship restaurant, Borchardt's, now has stiff competition. Aigner, with its discreet Viennese art nouveau decor and innovative menu combining local and Austrian classics with seasonal dishes, has already caught the eye of Borchardt's most prominent patron, German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. The Oven-Roast Duckling with creamed cabbage and potato pancakes is particularly delicious, although the menu has other delights in store, such as succulent lamb, tender beef, salubrious salads and stuffed pancakes for dessert. All dishes are lovingly prepared and the wine list should satisfy the most fastidious connoisseur, with over 150 wines to choose from. Review © 2009, Wcities |
