Messedamm 22 Berlin, Berlin 14057? +49 (0)30 3038 2900 |
Similar in design to the Eiffel Tower but at 138m distinctly smaller, the Funkturm ('radio tower') is West Berlin's answer to East Berlin's TV Tower. Built in 1926, it is also older and better looking than its counterpart. The restaurant at 55m offers fine German nouvelle cuisine and, despite the relatively high prices, is extremely popular with both tourists and locals, so it's best to book in advance. The views are sensational and quickly make you forget the money you had to pay for the lift. The smoked duck's breast with sauerkraut is a fine example of a classic dish revamped for modern tastes. The lamb with herb sauce, Kenyan beans and potato gratin is also worth a try. Review © 2009, Wcities |
