Berlin is a landlocked city, over 150 miles from the sea. But Roter Sand serves up the freshest fish imaginable, thanks to modern means of transportation and the restaurant's own lobster pool. The restaurant offers all conceivable types of fish and seafood—from tiny freshwater inhabitants to deep sea giants—cooked according to traditional German, Mediterranean or Scandinavian recipes. The ambience is pleasant, the decor typically Scandinavian. The Helgoland lobster soup is particularly tasty.
