Potsdamer Platz is apparently the biggest construction site in Europe. One of the smallest building sites has now been opened on the lawn in front of the Schinkel Museum near Berliner Dom. A red brick tower—part of Karl Friedrich Schinkel's Academy that stood here between 1836-1962, but which was pulled down to make space for the East German Foreign Ministry—is now being reconstructed on the same spot where it stood 150 years ago. Funnily enough, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany, the old East German Foreign Office became superflous to requirements and was itself destroyed. How quickly times change.
