The SEZ does still exist. Opened in 1981 beyond the Iron Curtain by East Germany's premier, Erich Honecker, the water paradise had for 10 years been not only the pride of socialist East Berlin, but also a major tourist attraction. After the upsurge of democracy and German reunification, however, the swimming pool was forgotten. The administration of Berlin's public pool calls SEZ its jewel, but it is in a deplorable state, even though it offers quite a choice of attractions still today: seven large pools indoor and out, a sauna, a fitness park, and Berlin's one and only swimming pool kindergarten. There is even a pool specially designed for disabled people. Review © 2009, Wcities |
