Berlin's Pantheon |
Bebelplatz Berlin, Berlin 10117 +49 (0)30 203 4810 http://www.hedwigs-kathedrale.de/index_en.html |
Berlin boasts a total of four cathedrals—three protestant cathedrals and the catholic St.Hedwig´s Cathedral on Bebelplatz, State Opera House and diagonally opposite Humboldt University. St. Hedwig's Cathedral, with its eye-catching copper-green dome, was based upon the design of the Roman Pantheon. Destroyed during World War II, it was completely rebuilt between 1952 and 1963. The building is dedicated to wartime Bishop Bernhard Lichtenberg, who spoke out against the Nazi regime and paid for it with his life. Review © 2009, Wcities |
