The star here is the paella, perhaps one of the best known dishes in the whole world. You can't say you've eaten a good paella until you've been to La Barraca, where this dish 'has no secrets'. You can choose here from among ten different paella preparations. All of this, what's more, in an exquisite atmosphere - because it's a popular dish doesn't mean you have to sample it in any old place. The atmosphere is very intimate, the walls decorated up to halfway point in a beige tone the same as the ceiling. From halfway up to the ceiling, separated by a very elegant border, the tone is a dark green. The lighting is provided by golden wall lamps positioned so that they also illuminate the pictures decorating the dining room. If you're not sure which paella to try, here are some suggestions: for the more traditional, the usual paella with meat and seafood is a good choice; for the more adventurous, try the paella served in the shell of a large crab or paella with clams. There is another La Barraca restaurant in number 12 García Salazar street (tel: 410 2021). The nearest metro station is Abando and in this branch dinner is served on Sunday evenings.
