Come in the morning and you'll find this place full of local workers, students and tourists having breakfast and reading the newspapers. Come after work and it's full to the brim with people having drinks and tapas, and it gets really busy at night when the music is turned up loud for dancing. It it a dark place with blue and white lighting, where people dance to the latest and liveliest music. State-of-the-art theatre |
Abandoibarra, 4 Bilbao 48011 Spain +34 94 403 5000 |
A symbolic representation of Bilbao's industrial heritage, this conference and concert hall built in 1999 looks like huge rusting metal ship and it stands on the site of the old Euskalduna shipyards. It holds 2200 spectators and offers state-of-the-art facilities and services for performers and the viewing public. The acoustics are excellent as is the seating, so you're sure to enjoy any of the operas, ballets and concerts organized throughout the year. In addition, there are bars, cafes, restaurants, private dining rooms, panoramic terrace, a lake and a car-park for 500 vehicles. You'll find it between Euskalduna bridge and the Museo Guggenheim. Check their website for the current performance schedule. Review © 2007, Wcities |

One of the best |
Gregorio de la Revilla, 25 Bilbao 48010 Spain +34 94 410 4951 |
Don't miss one of the best venues in Bilbao, as it offers a great atmosphere and a wide variety of live music featuring stars like Loquillo, Barricada, Greta y los Garbo, Antonio Flores, Los Secretos, Immaculate Fools, Javier Alvarez and Paul Carrack as well as DJs like Radiador, Dino Velvet and Resident DJ'S. The decor changes all the time to keep it fresh. At the moment the walls are decorated with records produced by performers who have played here alongside a collection of foreign banknotes and bottle tops. You'll hear soothing classical music in the bathrooms as a delicate touch. You can choose from a range of beers, cocktails, whiskies and rums as well as milkshakes and fresh juices. Varied music |
Calle Heros, 13 Bilbao, Vizcaya 48009 Spain http://www.bilbaoweb.com/dakar |
Yellow colours and the blues of a midday sky form the colour scheme in this club where young people flock to dance to the most contemporary sounds. Musically, everything goes in Dakar, from house to techno, garage to acid. There is a showcase that you can buy what you like best from, or just admire, full of radios, weighing scales, old musical instruments. To sum up, a good atmosphere, loads of life and people looking for the same thing as you: to have a good time. And Dakar is one of the few places where you can do this all week long. There is no respite even on Sundays, when it closes at 4:30am. If you want to start the week off sleepy but happy, well, you'll have company here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Leisure and culture zone |
San Vicente, 2 Bilbao 48001 Spain +34 94 424 4625 http://www.kafeantzokia.com |
A café-theatre that promotes work in Euskera (the Basque language) and Basque culture in general, although lots of musicians from all over Spain play here regularly. The ground floor is a café-restaurant during the day and turns into a music bar later on at night. The stage is used for all sorts of cultural activities including film shows, theatre and concerts. On Thursdays and Fridays there are always live concerts featuring different musical styles as diverse as classical, jazz, folk and pop-rock. There's a regular programme throughout the month of conferences, discussions, theatre, dance and children's activities as well as special events for World Theatre Day once a year. Good music and modern environment |
Ercilla, 2 Bilbao 48009 Spain +34 94 423 1154 |
It opens early for breakfast and serves excellent coffee. At lunchtime there are great tapas. In the afternoon you can sit and chat with friends as the light floods in the huge windows and tasteful music plays in the background. Come at night and the place buzzes with life and loud music. It attracts a clientele in their late 20s and early 30s and you'll find it in the Ensanche-Mazarredo-Albia district. Review © 2007, Wcities |
