Four-star resort hotel |
Wishaw Birmingham, Leicestershire B76 9PR United Kingdom +44 1675 47 0301 http://www.thebelfry.com/ |
The Belfry is one of the best-known hotels in the country. It is a resort hotel situated 15 minutes from both the National Exhibition Centre (The) and the airport. Set in large and spacious grounds (covering some 500 acres of countryside), it also holds three 18-hole golf courses. This place describes itself as "the best located conference, golf and leisure hotel in the UK" and it's hard to argue with that. The Belfry has five restaurants, eight bars and employs around 700 staff in all, so you should be well looked after. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great building near the city centre |
145 Alcester Street Birmingham B12 0PJ United Kingdom +44 121 606 9000 |
Situated in the south side of the city centre with easy access to major motorways, this hotel is set in a Grade II listed Victorian building that was last refurbished in the mid-1990s. It is a sister hotel to the slightly more expensive Chamberlain Tower Hotel on Broad Street. The area is not one of the most pleasant in Birmingham, but the hotel still offers good value for money. Birmingham United Kingdom |
This is the place to dine, shop, visit the theatres, and go clubbing. The city is now majorly pedestrianised and has everything within easy walking distance. At the Chamberlain Square end, students, trendies and clever types sit on the steps outside the library chatting, eating or swotting for exams. The popular Birmingham Art Gallery shows its scrubbed façade and imposing doors to the world, containing works by Rodin, some major Pre-Raphaelites and a breathtaking selection of Japanese armour. The glorious Town Hall and Council House face outwards to Victoria Square where the statue fondly known by all Brummies as "the Floozie in the Jacuzzi" takes centre stage on the steps that lead down to New Street. Broad Street, with its hotels, pubs, clubs and restaurants, leads to the canals - Birmingham has more canals than Venice as any local will only too readily point out. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Victorian-style central hotel |
Station Street Birmingham B5 4DY United Kingdom +44 121 643 1134 |
This small red brick Victorian-style hotel is located in the heart of the city centre. It is just two minutes' walk from New Street railway station and is handy for all local amenities. It has a total of 40 rooms, of which 32 are double, six single and two family. It might not be easy to find for the first time visitor to the city, as it is tucked away in a side street. However, it's just a few doors down from the Old Rep Theatre and the arthouse Electric Cinema (The), whose striking display of bizarre dummies in the upper floor windows makes a good point of reference. The Crowne Plaza is a modern hotel built in 1973, comprising 11 storeys. It is close to the city centre, just a few minutes walk from Broad Street - an area known for its nightlife - and also near to the International Convention Centre. It has always been regarded as one of the city's smarter hotels and is set back slightly from the main road with a spacious paved area in front of it. The adjacent Alpha Tower, one of Birmingham's tallest buildings, makes a good landmark. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This is a modern and comfortable hotel comprising 136 rooms and conveniently located less than a mile from the National Exhibition Centre. Especially popular with business travelers, this hotel is also quite suitable for leisure visitors as its position on the southern edge of the West Midlands conurbation makes it a useful base for exploring places such as Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick. The hotel's distinctive architecture makes it easy to find, as does its position close to the airport and on the main A45 Birmingham to Coventry Road. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Modern, central four-star hotel |
Smallbrook Queensway Birmingham B5 4EW United Kingdom +44 870 400 9008 http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h... |
This is a modern building constructed in 1964 and just a few minutes' walk from New Street railway station. The hotel was built during Birmingham's last major city centre redevelopment and many buildings of that time are being demolished now that the city is again being redeveloped. This is an exception - a piece of 1960's architecture that has stood the test of time, and blends well with its surroundings. Excellently positioned for Birmingham's nightlife, the hotel also boasts a good restaurant. Review © 2007, Wcities |

International meeting place |
Broad Street Birmingham B1 2AE United Kingdom +44 121 200 2000 |
A striking modern building, opened in 1991, the ICC faces on to Centenary Square and is ideally situated for central hotels and amenities. Of particular architectural interest is its angular design and impressive neon sculpture in the foyer. It has hosted many conventions of international importance and was a focal point for the G8 Summit meeting of world leaders in 1998. It also houses the entrance to the Symphony Hall, has a small cafe on the lower floor and contains conference rooms and halls to suit all but the very largest events. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This elegant Victorian hotel is right in the heart of the city, but its entrance is tucked away just off New Street so it could be easy to miss if you're not used to it. It boasts a fine bar and restaurant and stands above an arcade of elegant shops and boutiques. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Modern three-star hotel with spacious bedrooms |
Opposite Main Terminal Building Birmingham International Airport Birmingham, West Midlands B26 3QL United Kingdom +44 121 782 7000 http://www.airport-hotel-shop.... |
A very modern three-star hotel only built in 1991. It is located opposite the main airport terminal and is within walking distance of the NEC. The bedrooms here are impressively spacious and the hotel does seem to try hard to fit in with the plans of the business traveller. One of the best features of this hotel is its restaurant, which has longer opening hours than most. You can generally get something to eat from very early in the morning up until midnight. Well-located three-star hotel with pet policy |
70 Broad Street Birmingham B1 2HT United Kingdom +44 121 643 2000 |
The Novotel is situated right in the heart of Birmingham only two minutes from the International Convention Centre. It is housed in a modern building and lies at the heart of Birmingham's main entertainment and nightlife district. This is a three-star establishment which prides itself on supplying comfortable rooms with a homely feel. The hotel also allows small pets, but this policy depends on the discretion of the manager, so it's best to check first to make sure yours will be accepted. Review © 2007, Wcities |

135 Hagley Road Edgbaston Birmingham B16 8LS United Kingdom +44 870 609 6118 |
Situated near the city centre, this long established Victorian red brick hotel is well known for its hospitality and comfort. It lies on the Hagley Road, which is noted for its many hotels. However, the architecture of this building distinguishes it from the rest and it is a familiar local landmark. All rooms are en suite and have a hairdryer and telephone. The hotel is set in attractive grounds. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Affordable four-star hotel |
166-174 Hagley Road Birmingham B16 9NZ United Kingdom +44 121 454 6621 |
This is a four-star hotel situated on the Hagley Road, which lies within easy reach of the city centre. There are plenty of other similar places nearby in this area, where hotels are particularly thick on the ground. However, this place does offer value for money, especially given the facilities it has. These include a leisure centre, with swimming pool, while a recently refurbished bar and a restaurant provide the perfect place to unwind. If you are in the mood for special pampering, ask about the availability and details of the special Premier Plus rooms. These are more expensive than the norm, but you do get lots of extras.
