Accommodation in Birmingham tends to form in three clusters, which are based around the city centre, the Five Ways roundabout & Hagley Road (A456), and in the area around the airport and the NEC.

City Centre Accommodation

The city centre offers the widest choice of accommodation. Many hotels here cater specifically to the needs of business visitors, offering conference facilities and business lunch options. The Comfort Inn, The Burlington Hotel and the Copthorne Hotel offer comfortable 4-star accommodation and attentive service. They're all within a stone's throw of the main railway station, the central coach station and Birmingham city centre. Hyatt Regency Hotel, considered one of Birmingham's finest hotels, adjacent to the International Convention Centre, offers deluxe accommodation in the most convenient location possible for both the ICC and the National Indoor Arena (NIA), which is also the case with the Novotel Birmingham Centre. The Crowne Plaza Birmingham, Forte Posthouse Birmingham City on Queensway, The Royal Angus Thistle and the inexpensive Chamberlain Park Hotel, are all located within the city centre allowing visitors to take full advantage of the city's amenities.

Airport Accommodation

Birmingham's airport and the NEC, only approximately 18 miles outside the city centre, also offer visitors a wide choice. The vast Stakis Birmingham Metropole Hotel is actually located within the grounds of the NEC, and The Belfry, The Forte Posthouse Birmingham Airport and The Novotel Birmingham Airport are also in this area.

The Five Ways roundabout and Hagley Road

The greatest choice of accommodation is afforded to commuters travelling to Birmingham by car. There are lots of small hotels and Bed & Breakfasts within easy access of motorways, with connections to all parts of the country as well as Birmingham city centre. The Five Ways roundabout and Hagley Road area is good for hotels, for precisely this reason. The luxurious Marriott Hotel has an excellent location on the Hagley Road, Quality Cobden Hotel and The Thistle Birmingham Edgbaston both offer 4-star comfort within this area, and the moderately priced Plough & Harrow is smaller, but just as handily positioned for commuters.

Belfry Hotel

Four-star resort hotel
Wishaw
Birmingham, Leicestershire B76 9PR
United Kingdom

http://www.thebelfry.com/
The Belfry is one of the best-known hotels in the country. It is a resort hotel situated 15 minutes from both the National Exhibition Centre (The) and the airport. Set in large and spacious grounds (covering some 500 acres of countryside), it also holds three 18-hole golf courses. This place describes itself as "the best located conference, golf and leisure hotel in the UK" and it's hard to argue with that. The Belfry has five restaurants, eight bars and employs around 700 staff in all, so you should be well looked after.

Chamberlain Park Hotel

Great building near the city centre
145 Alcester Street
Birmingham B12 0PJ
United Kingdom
+44 121 606 9000
Situated in the south side of the city centre with easy access to major motorways, this hotel is set in a Grade II listed Victorian building that was last refurbished in the mid-1990s. It is a sister hotel to the slightly more expensive Chamberlain Tower Hotel on Broad Street. The area is not one of the most pleasant in Birmingham, but the hotel still offers good value for money.

City Centre

Birmingham
United Kingdom
This is the place to dine, shop, visit the theatres, and go clubbing. The city is now majorly pedestrianised and has everything within easy walking distance. At the Chamberlain Square end, students, trendies and clever types sit on the steps outside the library chatting, eating or swotting for exams. The popular Birmingham Art Gallery shows its scrubbed façade and imposing doors to the world, containing works by Rodin, some major Pre-Raphaelites and a breathtaking selection of Japanese armour. The glorious Town Hall and Council House face outwards to Victoria Square where the statue fondly known by all Brummies as "the Floozie in the Jacuzzi" takes centre stage on the steps that lead down to New Street. Broad Street, with its hotels, pubs, clubs and restaurants, leads to the canals - Birmingham has more canals than Venice as any local will only too readily point out.

Comfort Inn

Victorian-style central hotel
Station Street
Birmingham B5 4DY
United Kingdom
+44 121 643 1134
This small red brick Victorian-style hotel is located in the heart of the city centre. It is just two minutes' walk from New Street railway station and is handy for all local amenities. It has a total of 40 rooms, of which 32 are double, six single and two family. It might not be easy to find for the first time visitor to the city, as it is tucked away in a side street. However, it's just a few doors down from the Old Rep Theatre and the arthouse Electric Cinema (The), whose striking display of bizarre dummies in the upper floor windows makes a good point of reference.

Modern, central four-star hotel
Smallbrook Queensway
Birmingham B5 4EW
United Kingdom
+44 870 400 9008
http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h...
This is a modern building constructed in 1964 and just a few minutes' walk from New Street railway station. The hotel was built during Birmingham's last major city centre redevelopment and many buildings of that time are being demolished now that the city is again being redeveloped. This is an exception - a piece of 1960's architecture that has stood the test of time, and blends well with its surroundings. Excellently positioned for Birmingham's nightlife, the hotel also boasts a good restaurant.

A striking modern building, opened in 1991, the ICC faces on to Centenary Square and is ideally situated for central hotels and amenities. Of particular architectural interest is its angular design and impressive neon sculpture in the foyer. It has hosted many conventions of international importance and was a focal point for the G8 Summit meeting of world leaders in 1998. It also houses the entrance to the Symphony Hall, has a small cafe on the lower floor and contains conference rooms and halls to suit all but the very largest events.

Opposite Main Terminal Building
Birmingham International Airport
Birmingham, West Midlands B26 3QL
United Kingdom
+44 121 782 7000

A very modern three-star hotel only built in 1991. It is located opposite the main airport terminal and is within walking distance of the NEC. The bedrooms here are impressively spacious and the hotel does seem to try hard to fit in with the plans of the business traveller. One of the best features of this hotel is its restaurant, which has longer opening hours than most. You can generally get something to eat from very early in the morning up until midnight.

Quality Cobden Hotel

Affordable four-star hotel
166-174 Hagley Road
Birmingham B16 9NZ
United Kingdom
+44 121 454 6621
This is a four-star hotel situated on the Hagley Road, which lies within easy reach of the city centre. There are plenty of other similar places nearby in this area, where hotels are particularly thick on the ground. However, this place does offer value for money, especially given the facilities it has. These include a leisure centre, with swimming pool, while a recently refurbished bar and a restaurant provide the perfect place to unwind. If you are in the mood for special pampering, ask about the availability and details of the special Premier Plus rooms. These are more expensive than the norm, but you do get lots of extras.
