Coventry Road Small Heath Birmingham B10 0HH United Kingdom +44 121 766 7374 |
Asda is one of Britain's largest supermarket chains, and has now been taken over by American giant Wal*Mart. Its prices are generally reckoned to be keen and the Small Heath branch is open for 24 hours a day (with the exception of Sundays, owing to UK trading laws). Asda doesn't only sell groceries, having a well-regarded clothes section too, and offering various other items such as kitchenware, pharmaceuticals and electronic goods. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Best of high street wine merchants |
41 Colmore Row Birmingham B3 2BS United Kingdom +44 121 236 3051 |
Wine of any sort was once enjoyed only by the few in Britain, a traditionally beer drinking country, but that has changed dramatically in recent years. Chains such as Oddbins (widely regarded as the best in its field) have been credited with spreading the wine gospel in the UK, providing decent wines at sensible prices. This branch is sited close to the heart of Birmingham's financial quarter, near to the city centre. A wide range of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is also sold. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cupboard of delights |
2-4 Lonsdale Road Birmingham B17 9RA United Kingdom |
This fantastic little deli is hidden away in a side street, next door to an organic fruit and veg place and an excellent butcher's. It's only small, but sells an enviable range of cheeses—many organic and most quite rare—as well as hams, fresh bread, preserves, wines, pastries and the eponymous pickles. Everything is deliciously tasty and certainly worth the little extra you'll have to pay. Review © 2007, Wcities |
