Authentic restaurant dishes up belly dancing
111 Broadway Avenue
Boise, ID 83702
United States
+1 208 368 0880
The ethnic touches of this downtown restaurant add to the authenticity of owner/chef Ibrahim Ebed's Egyptian cuisine, but it is the belly dancers that capture most of the attention. Richly clad in native costumes, the dancers entertain diners Thursday through Saturday. But even the dancers can't outshine the food. Flavorful Egyptian flatbread and pitas are made daily. Appetizers include Baba Ghanouj, mashed eggplant with sesame tahini and garlic. Entrees range from Wara 'anab, grape leaves stuffed with rice and fresh herbs, and Seyadeyeh, a rice and fish casserole.

Umbrella-covered patio tables spill out almost onto the sidewalk at this pizza joint in Boise's historic Hyde Park. In the summer, customers mingle, sipping cold beverages and munching on pizza slices. You can still see remnants of the restaurant's gas station origins, but this pizza parlor has been serving up pizza, not gasoline, since 1984. Try one of the specialties like the Camel's Back Pork Pie, named after a Boise landmark, or build your own pizza. A variety of sandwiches, named after Hyde Park Streets, and drinks, including wine and microbrews, are also available.

Little has changed at this side-of-the-road cafe, and, one thing is for sure, its famous scones have not either. Your typical sandwiches, soups and salads are consumed here, but, if you would like to unleash the sugar-tooth fairy, try a scone - powdered-sugar, fruit and honey are several of the options. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this restaurant never closes. Leave the cell phone and laptop at home, but bring plenty of quarters for the jukebox.

This greasy spoon, one of downtown's hot spots for lunch, offers the standard high-cholesterol fare: burgers, French fries, three-egg omelets. You get the idea. The cafe is also "Home of World Famous Milkshakes". A better milkshake whether it is fresh banana, raspberry or strawberry (real ice cream and fruit) won't be found in the City of Trees. Although the shakes have decreased in size, a small still runs about 16 ounces. As far as heart-stopping food goes, try this eatery.

The bad news is that longtime dining tradition The Renaissance is gone. The good news is that an equally elegant and delicious restaurant has taken over its stone-walled space in the basement of the historic Belgravia Building. Offering white linen service amidst a romantic setting, the restaurant features a menu that changes often. Rainbow Trout Roulade and Mortimer's Famous Lamb Shank are an example of the delicious entrees. The desserts, such as Saffron Poached Pear and Dark Chocolate Timbale, should not be missed. Idaho wines are also prominently featured.
