One of downtown's newest establishments also is the first restaurant and distillery in the nation. Bardenay, which is sailor's slang for cocktail, concocts its own vodka, rum, gin and whiskey. In addition to drinks comes an impressive Mediterranean-style menu. Entrees range from Oyster Fry to Rum Pepper Steak while its Warm Boarshead Pastrami and Corned Beef Reuben sandwiches are certain to satisfy. Besides the distillery, the spacious brick-walled eatery features beers on tap served at its long, cherry-oak bar. Bring your appetite and alcohol tolerance, if necessary.

Standard fare exists for the less brave, too. Indulge with a 22-ounce Guinness or a glass of Basque wine. If you are just starting the day, gulp an espresso. Tables are sparse, but prized if found. Outdoor seating is also available during the warmer months.

Serving tapas, which are Spanish appetizers or snacks, this restaurant has brought a slice of the Mediterranean to the streets of Boise. Basque dishes are included in the restaurant specialties, which also features gourmet pizza and rotisserie items. Beverage choices include imported and local wines, microbrews and cocktails. Diners can enjoy views of downtown Boise from the third-floor location or dine outdoors. The wait staff aims to please. Banquet facilities are also available for 25 to 125 people.
