A 45-minute drive from Boise, the refuge includes Lake Lowell, a popular spot for boating, swimming and fishing. Annual bird migrations make the lake an enchanting place for bird watching. Watch birds soar |

Designated a "Watchable Wildlife" area, this area of nearly a half-million acres winds along an 80-mile stretch of the Snake River Canyon, south of Boise. One of the densest concentrations of nesting birds of prey is here, along with over 250 other wildlife species. There are some tours offered by private outfitters, but mostly it is a self-guided see-it-yourself area.
