This Museum is located inside an interesting 20th century building designed by P. Penza. The Museum of Mineralogy and Petrography was founded by L. Bombicci in 1862. The collection was divided into four large sections. The first section contains the general mineralogy collection with around 5000 exhibits, including semi-precious stones and parts of meteorites. The second section houses 15,000 specimens from Italy's varying geographical regions. The third section displays minerals from Bolognese territory such as the Bolognese datolite, and finally, the fourth area is the petrographic section with magmatic rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks. Some of the most attractive stones in the Museum, because of their unusual coloring, are the sulphur aragonites, the fluorites, the agate and opals, the hematites, the phosgenites, the silver and the quartz.
