In An Antique Land |
Am Hofgarten 21 Bonn, NRW 53113 Germany +49 228 73 7738 |
Karl Friedrich Schinkel laid down the plans for the Academic Art Museum in 1824. It lies in a wonderful location on the edge of the Hofgartenwiese directly opposite the main university buildings. The building contained the Archaeological Institute of the University in the nineteenth century. Today visitors find antique originals, among which is a work originating from the Cycladian times in 3AD. The extensive collection of plaster casts of antique statues and reliefs is very impressive. The museum has 2000 objects, it is one of the largest in Germany. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Most Important Concert Hall in Bonn |
Wachsbleiche 17 Bonn, NRW 53111 Germany +49 228 722 2300 http://www.beethovenhalle |
You can see the Beethovenhalle from the Fritz Schröder Bank on the Rhine Promenade. The old building was destroyed in the Second World War and a new one was built between 1956-1959. In the main rooms and concert hall, concerts and congresses as well as other events often take place. In addition, you can marvel at the monumental concrete sculpture called 'Beethon' here (there is a word play with the homonym 'Beton', which is German for 'concrete'). The Da Capo restaurant adjoins the Beethovenhalle and has a terrace from which you get a splendid view of the Rhine and Siebengebirge mountains. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Germany's Favourite Star |
Bonngasse 18-26 Bonn, NRW 53111 Germany +49 228 9 81750 http://www.beethoven-haus-bonn.de |
Ludwig von Beethoven was born here in 1770; not in the impressive part facing the street, but in the much simpler part at the back. The house was acquired by 12 wealthy residents in 1889 and converted into a museum, which houses priceless treasures including the original, hand-written manuscripts for the the Moonlight Sonata, Pastoral Symphony and Coriolan Overture. Visitors can also admire the great composer's instruments, including a viola, quartet instruments, a grand piano and a console from Remigiuskirche's organ. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fashion Mode |
City-Passage, Markt 31-33, Münsterplatz 23 Bonn, NRW 53111 Germany +49 228 65 77 77 (City Passage) / +49 228 98 35 30 (Mnsterplatz) http://www.daniels-mode.de/ |
Daniels branches can be found throughout the city center, but they don't all sell the same clothes. There are, for example, exclusive jeans shops in which only Levis and Co. are sold. Then there is a branch (City Passage) which specializes in casual wear, with jeans, sweatshirts and jumpers. Directly opposite is the women's fashion shop, where expensive jeans from the Closed brand name, as well as dresses, jackets, jumpers, blouses, tops and bodysuits can be found. If you walk through this shop, you'll find the men's department, where shirts, suits, jackets, belts and other men's fashion articles can be found. If you like sporty and chic fashion, Daniels is the place for you, but be warned that the clothes do not come cheap. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Former Headquarters of the Bundestag and MP's |
Adenauerallee Bad Godesberg Bonn, NRW 53113 Germany |
When Bonn was still the federal capital of Germany, political events generally unfolded in the Government quarter, the area around the old Bundestag, erected just over ten years ago. Scattered over the area are many Embassies and the headquarters of state delegations, which are still partly occupied. The so-called Lange Eugen is also located directly by the Rhine, which previously contained MPs offices. It is Bonn's highest building and offers a view of the whole city. You can relax in the cafe right at the top, which offers a picturesque view of Bonn. In clear weather you can even see Cologne Cathedral. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A 1202 Church |
Heisterbacher Road Bonn, NRW 53227 Germany +49 228 934 8702 |
The Kloster Heisterbach lies between Oberdollendorf and Heisterbacherrott. It was built in 1202 for the Cistercian monk order. This church was one of the oldest Roman churches in the region, until it was finally destroyed. The famous monk Cesarius lived here in the thirteenth century; and his fondness for bronze is found in Oberdollendorf. Today, the choir ruins, the former kitchen area, the Old Brewing House, and the cloister walls can be seen. Various sculptures have also been preserved. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Historic City Hall |
Am Markt Bonn, NRW 53111 Germany +49 228 77 2080 http://www.bonn.de/rathaus/ |
The Marktplatz is more or less the heart of the city. Visually, it is ruled by the magnificent Rathaus, which was built under the Elector Clemens August. The foundation stone was laid in 1737. The building was constructed by court builder Michel Leveilly, who also built the Koblenz Gate. In 1944, the Town Hall was almost completely destroyed by an air raid, but was rebuilt with only a few minor changes in 1949-50. The wonderful double outside flight of steps has been the scene for many historical events. The professor and revolutionary Gottfried Kinkel gave a captivating talk and waved the national flag to Bonn citizens here on 20th March 1848. The town hall has been the headquarters for the city administration for 700 years. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mountain with the Former Government's Guest House |
Siebengebirge (to Ittenbach, then 3.5 km straight as per signs) Bonn, NRW 53227 Germany |
The Petersberg, a mountain in the Siebengebirge range, is well-known because the guest house of the former Government is located on its summit. The old hotel was first turned into a guest house in the eighties, and a lot of money was spent for its construction. Since the government's move to Berlin, the building has been up for sale. The mountain, with its restaurant and hotel, can easily be recognised from far away. It is worth making a trip to the Petersberg for the view, which you get even from the restaurant. Historical Street in the City Centre |
Sternstraße Bonn, NRW 53111 Germany |
For any visitor to Bonn, a walk through the Sternstraße in the city centre is definitely worth it. There are many small shops, from where visitors can pick up great souvenirs. Don't forget to check out the houses in which the shops are located. Almost every one of these pretty houses has a sign on the first floor, which explains the history and use of the building in the past. The Sternstraße was earlier called the Pisternenstraße ( from the Latin word pistor, which means baker) which could mean that this guild was well represented here. The first syllable was left out after a while, and thus the street name has today become Sternstraße. Review © 2007, Wcities |
