There is a large choice of overnight accommodation in Bonn. The city centre, Bad Godesberg or, further afield, the area around the Siebengebirge mountains, are all recommended areas for finding a place to stay.

Luxury

There is a multitude of luxury accommodation in Bonn. If centrally located hotels are your preference, then Hotel Bristol by the Poppelsdorf Palace is ideal. A swimming pool is available here, as well as in the Hotel Residence on the Kaiserplatz. The Kaiser Karl Hotel is situated in a central location and decorated with classic 'Jugendstil' furniture. True luxury is offered at the Maritim Hotel in Bad Godesberg, where an entire fitness area is at the guests' disposal. The five star Dorint Hotel is located on the Venusberg. It is built in a country style and offers a health club alongside its 85 luxurious rooms. The Gästehaus Petersberg in Königswinter is where many official state guests have stayed.

Upper-Range

If you can live without pure luxury, you'll definitely be able to find a room in a four-star hotel in Bonn. The Rheinhotel Dreesen in Bad Godesberg, for example, has been a lovely hotel for the last 100 years. Like the Best Western Kaiserhof, which has been in existence since 1902, the house has a great view of the Siebengebirge mountains. If you'd like a peaceful place to sleep, then book a room in the Hotel Godesburg. The Hotel Burgblick offers a little extra - you can sleep on a waterbed here! The Holiday Inn is always a good choice. With 12 suites, the hotel also offers a splendid view of the Rhine. The Amber Hotel President is close to the Botanical Gardens and the Poppelsdorf Palace.

Mid-Range

course, Bonn also has a good choice of moderately priced hotels. For those who are travelling by train and need to leave early in the morning, it's convenient to stay in the Hotel Continental, across from the main train station. The Hotel Europa is also a good choice if you want to stay in the city centre. If you stay here you can take advantage of a package stay, which can include travel tickets to Phantasialand in Brühl or a three day cycling tour. Two hotels are recommended in Bad Godesberg - the Hotel Eden is situated on the Redoute close to the Godesberg park. You can see the Godesburg from most rooms. The Hotel Flora is just as good a choice. Emphasis here is placed on exquisite furniture and the atmosphere is in keeping with the building - a 'Jugendstil' villa. The Gästehaus Burg Dottendorf is romantically located in a castle. The castle vault is hired out for big events, and is suitable for weddings. The Appartementhaus am Ring is located outside of Bonn, and offers self-catering apartments equipped with kitchens.

Lower Price Categories

Unless you like the idea of sharing a youth hostel room, it's not that easy to find a room in the lower price range in Bonn. If your wallet won't stretch to the higher price categories, you can try places like the Hotel Görres. This hotel is close to the Siebengebirge mountains and is particularly well situated for making trips into the surrounding area. Rooms here cost from (EUR 40) per night. Even cheaper rooms can be found in the district of Hardtberg. In the Hotel Nettekoven you only pay EUR 30 and it is also ideal if you are travelling with a dog. For EUR 50 you can stay in the Hotel zum Wilden Schwein, which is situated on the edge of the forest and is extremely child-friendly, with a large play area!

Bad Godesberg

Bonn
Germany
Bad Godesberg itself, known as a health resort, is also worth a visit, and the Godesburg is not its only attraction. The Kurpark (spa gardens) lies close to the city and the dem Kurfürstenbad (spa) borders the nice facades of the Ballrooms and Town Hall. In addition, Bad Godesberg has a popular chamber theatre and the small theatre in the park. A side trip to the Aennchenplatz and a break at the Lindenwirtin is also delightful. The Museum Mile and government quarter features a multitude of museums and political institutions. The Museum Alexander Koenig, Haus der Geschichte (House of History), Art Museum and the Federal Art Exhibition Hall can be visited here, or visit the Konrad Adenauer memorial on the Bundeskanzlerplatz, the Palais Schaumburg and the Villa Hammerschmidt.

Bonn Main Train Station

Historical Station from 1844
Am Hauptbahnhof
Bonn, NRW 53111
Germany
http://www.bahn.de
Until the year 1844, there was only a small railway station in Bonn, which served as a termination point. As the railways were extended towards the south, the station had to be rebuilt and made much bigger. The building process began in 1882, and was completed in 1885. This building, done in Italian Renaissance style with sandstone and brick facades, still serves as the main station today. The old station was rebuilt in Rolandseck after it was torn down, where it now serves as a culture and art centre.

Das Siebengebirge

Mountains by the Rhine
Königswinter
Bonn, NRW 53227
Germany
The Seven Mountains are located to the east of Bonn, and on the right side of the Rhine. The name comes from Siefengebirge, which means mountains with small valleys. From over forty hills, these seven are easy to recognise. All the hills are remains of the Siebengebirge volcano, which formed the shape of this area about 18-25 million years ago. The highest mountain in this range is the Große Ölberg, with the TV mast at its summit; but the best known mountain is the Petersberg on whose summit the former guest house of the Government was located. Just as well known is the Drachenfels, which is the most popular mountain to climb in Germany. In addition, the Wolkenburg, Löwenburg, Lohrberg, Nonnenstromberg, Perlenhardt, and the Stenzelberg also belong to the Siebengebirge mountain range

A converted castle dating back to the Middle Ages, Gästehaus Dottendorf is one of the most amazing hotels in the region. The rooms boast high stucco ceilings, parquet floors and modern facilities. The hotel restaurant serves top-class international dishes. Charlemagne (Holy Roman Emperor and King of the Franks) is alleged to have stayed here in the 8th century; while historians cannot be 100% sure about this, the octagonal tower and castle vaults certainly date back that far.

Aside from the Drachenfels, the Nibelungenhalle is one of the area's landmarks. In this hall, which also has a small reptile zoo attached, there is a little museum, which shows exhibits from the German legends. The reconstruction of a dragon is particularly popular with the youngsters. It is open from 1p to 6p, daily, from March to October (if weather permits). Elector Joseph Clemens began building this castle in 1715. The most conspicuous building on the west end of the Poppelsdorf Allee, it was finished by Clemens' successor Clemens August in the year 1753. The building, which stands on a square plot, reminds one of French and Italian architecture with its four wings and round arched courtyard. Various builders, some of them famous, like Robert de Cotte and Balthasar Neumann, have left their mark here. In 1818 the castle was used to house the natural sciences collection of the university, which is still located there today. Instead of a park, the Botanical Gardens surround the palace, which are particularly worth seeing.
