Bonn has a wide variety of restaurants, bars, pubs and cafés to offer its visitors. Those who would prefer to stay in just one of the city's districts will be best served in either the city centre or the student quarter of Poppelsdorf. But good food is found not only in these districts, there are also many opportunities to eat out in Bad Godesberg, Südstadt and the Old Town.

City Centre

The city centre is the culinary centre of Bonn, and there are so many places to have a meal or drink here that it is extremely hard to choose between them. The Salvator is a typically Bavarian pub in the middle of the Rhineland. A typical Cologne pub is the Em Höttche, where you can order a meter-long row of kölsch beer. Younger people like to go to Bellini, a scene café-bar, where mainly Italian specialities are served. Around the corner is the Cafe Blau, Bonn's student pub, well known for its cheap breakfast and good coffee. For rock music fans, the Zebulon is just twenty metres away, where you can enjoy a tasty sandwich. The Milchpavillon is also well known if you crave something sweet.

Poppelsdorf

If you come to Poppelsdorf, you'll find yourself in Bonn's student quarter. The cocktail bar Extra Dry is worth a visit, as there are over fifty different cocktails on offer here, as well as sandwiches and good coffee. Turkish specialities are served in a nice atmosphere at Efes Restaurant. The Cafe Anders is always a good choice - it's a mixture of a restaurant, café and bar.

Bad Godesberg

Bad Godesberg is one of Bonn's largest districts. The House of Steaks is particularly well known for its large choice of Argentinean specialities. If you prefer Greek food, then the Dionysos restaurant in the Plittersdorf area is a good place to go. Situated only twenty metres away from the Rhine, a large beer garden and exquisite menu invite guests to have a feast. All those who prefer Italian cuisine only have to go one building further, to the Trattoria Pizzeria Italia.

Beuel

Many pubs and cafes can be found right by the Rhine in Beuel. One of these is the Rheinlust, well known for its good and inexpensive brunches. The Beueler Bahnhöfchen is not far from here, with its large beer garden in the summer and a weekly changing menu. Beuel's best Italian restaurant is right on the corner of the Konrad-Adenauer Platz, namely the Portofino. The food here is not cheap, but is excellent.

Südstadt

Bonn's Südstadt area is located right next to the city centre and is a popular meeting place for students. The Treppchen, for example, is a pub in the art nouveau style. If you fancy a good brunch, go to Wespennest.

Altstadt ( Old Town )

As well as its many museums, the Old Town has much to offer in the way of food and drink. The Elsässer Weinstuben is as cosy wine bar with a rustic atmosphere. In the Anno Tubac, the themes of art and food are brought together.

This intriguing restaurant-cum-cabaret theater turns eating into an all-night entertainment program. Guests can savor a variety of snacks while enjoying the show, which can include anything from cabaret and comedy to political discussion forums. The crowd is generally young, open-minded and chatty, so it's easy to get to know people on the next table. Mainly German cuisine is served here although the Italian pasta dishes are also extremely tasty. Other highlights are the selection of whiskies and the bowling alley in the basement.

Bad Godesberg

Bonn
Germany
Bad Godesberg itself, known as a health resort, is also worth a visit, and the Godesburg is not its only attraction. The Kurpark (spa gardens) lies close to the city and the dem Kurfürstenbad (spa) borders the nice facades of the Ballrooms and Town Hall. In addition, Bad Godesberg has a popular chamber theatre and the small theatre in the park. A side trip to the Aennchenplatz and a break at the Lindenwirtin is also delightful. The Museum Mile and government quarter features a multitude of museums and political institutions. The Museum Alexander Koenig, Haus der Geschichte (House of History), Art Museum and the Federal Art Exhibition Hall can be visited here, or visit the Konrad Adenauer memorial on the Bundeskanzlerplatz, the Palais Schaumburg and the Villa Hammerschmidt.

Bad Godesberg is definitely the nicest district in Bonn. Not only that, it also has numerous sights, good pubs, restaurants and shopping facilities. To name but a few attractions, here you'll find the Redoute with the adjoining Stadtpark and the Deutsche Museum with its technical exhibits. In Bad Godesberg's town centre, there is row upon row of pubs and good restaurants. The landmarks are defintely the Rheinauen in Plittersdorf, an area of Bad Godesberg. It stretches out over many kilometres and is a great place for flea markets, festivals and other events.

Bonn, NRW 53111
Germany

The cuisine is Italiano. The name leaves no room for guessing and with a mixed clientele, this fashionable Mediterranean-style bar-cum-restaurant allows guests to sip cocktails before or after the meal. As the number of tables is unfortunately rather limited, it is advisable to get here early in the evening if you want grab a bite. Huge advantage- Italian food is served on weekends.

Café Anders

The Cafe With a Twist
Clemens-August-Straße 24
Bonn, NRW 53115
Germany

Cafe Anders in the middle of Poppelsdorf does justice to its name - it's really quite different. You can come here daily to drink coffee and maybe eat a small dish from the bistro section. In the evenings, the Anders suddenly tranforms into a bar. The menu ranges from salads and toast to, 'layered pastries from the oven', which is how pizza is described here.

Café Blau

Well Known Student Pub with Music
Franziskanerstraße 5
Innenstadt
Bonn, NRW 53113
Germany
+49 228 65 0717
The Blau is the most popular student meeting place with its cheap prices and an extensive breakfast offering. Here everything from French and English up to Country breakfasts are offered. The snacks and small dishes on the menu reflect a model Italian pub. House and techno parties are on the programme at weekends, and cocktails can always be bought cheaply here. The pub's style is very Spartan that goes well with the swimming pool which lies next door. Fish and fishing nets on the wall give a Mediterranean feel to this place.

Drinking From The Tap

Allegedly, Beethoven once stopped in this traditional pub next to the Altes Rathaus or Old Town Hall. Today both old and young, tourists and locals drink the tasty Cologne beer on tap here. The regular supplies laid on by the staff ensure that no-one stays thirsty for long here, and if you want to eat something with your beer then you won't be disappointed by the good value and tasty menu. At Carnival time a lot goes on, and much singing and dancing is undertaken from Shrove Tuesday to Carnival Tuesday.

Old Town

Bonn
Germany
Old Town extends to the council offices buildings to the north, and has an urban feel. Here there is a multitude of pubs and restaurants for those who like a bit of fun. If you're inclined towards art, then you should visit the artists' square, as well as the Bonn Art Society, Art Forum, Women's Museum and the August-Macke-Haus. The Plittersdorf district has rather different sights to offer. The Deutsche Museum Bonn, for one, is found here, as well as the headquarters of the Voluntary Organisation of the United Nations, which is situated right by the Rhine. Bordering Plittersdorf is the Rheinaue Freizeitpark (Leisure park) with the Ausee (lake). A big flea market takes place here every third Sunday of the month. Another popular market is held in the Pützchen district.

Poppelsdorf

Bonn
Germany
Poppelsdorf is a classical Bonn district. With its lovely houses dating from the 1871-73 and art nouveau periods, this area is one of the most popular residential areas. Around the Poppelsdorfer Castle and Botanical Gardens, there are many nice cafes, restaurants and pubs. The neighbouring Südstadt is also lovely and just as popular, with many nice student pubs. Schwarzrheindorf is one of Bonn's oldest city districts, famous for the Doppelkirche (church) . Often undiscovered, since it lies some way away from the centre, is the magical city district of Muffendorf, with pretty half-timbered houses and picturesque courtyards. This district was once a wine growing industry, though today only a few wine bars are reminders of this time. A look at the Kommende is also worthwhile.

Salvator

Bavarian Cuisine

Bavarian flair in the middle of Bonn town centre. If you like drinking weiss beer and eating a Haxn (pig's leg) with bread dumplings, then you should simply go to the Saviour, which is what Salvator means. Situated close to the station, Bavarian guests don't need to drink out of the usual small Cologne beer glasses - they can get a litre mug instead. In the summer, you can sit outside at the small beer tables and pretend you're in the heart of Munich.

Zebulon

Oldest Student Meeting Place by the University
Stockenstraße 19
Innenstadt
Bonn, NRW 53113

The atmosphere in Zebulon seems somewhat gloomy at first, but this is deceptive. Here you can drink one of the best cafes au lait in Bonn and there are a number of seating areas with sofas to get chatty. Alternative music, let your lunchtime pass comfortably and make your evenings interesting. The clientele is mixed, students, teenagers to guests in their forties. A definite plus in the Zebulon is the fresh draught Guiness as well as the toast and sandwiches.
