The sea in and under your plates |
53, rue St-Rémi (Cours de l'Intendance) Bordeaux 33000 France +33 5 5644 5243 |
Real aquariums are used as tables here, believe it or not. This place is well loved by the Bordeaux people and as the décor is entirely focused on the sea, it is quite natural to order the specialties of the house: grilled lobster (about EUR 23, depending on market prices), or a very large seafood platter from the Bay of Arcachon. On the à la carte menu, there are also fish dishes such as the turbot cooked according to the chef's taste, along with vegetables from the local market. Review © 2007, Wcities |

1900s setting and delicious food |
5, rue Montesquieu Bordeaux 33000 France +33 5 5679 1010 |
A splendid Belle Epoque setting and refined, creative cuisine are behind the well-deserved Michelin three stars, a prestigious culinary honour. The chef, Francis Garcia, creates such delights as raviole de langoustine au citron vert (ravioli with crayfish filling and lime sauce), terrine de foie gras de canard (duck liver pâté), melon soup, and shellfish in Muscat wine. The service is efficient, but incredibly discreet. Many famous people have sat under the strange, rocky archway: Sandra Berhnardt, Winston Churchill and Toulouse Lautrec, among others. Real novelty |
30, quai de la Monnaie Bordeaux, Aquitaine 33800 France +33 556 31 3030 |
Although this restaurant is found behind the walls of an 18th century colonial residence on the Garonne quayside, its cuisine is completely modern and sophisticated. Dine in smart surroundings with beautifully set tables and from transparent plates that let you really appreciate the beauty of the regional dishes. On the menu is shad, a rare and much sought-after fish from the Garonne region, with gribiche sauce made from hard-boiled egg yolks, oil, vinegar and mustard. International items include sashimi and chicken kebabs with sweet and sour sauce. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Authentic regional dishes |
11, rue de la Devise (Rue des Argentiers) Bordeaux 33000 France |
In the heart of old Bordeaux, this restaurant is reminiscent of establishments of a time gone by: the traditional cuisine is served in a warm, homey atmosphere, surrounded by etchings, copper plates and other antiques. The beautiful fireplace is very pleasant in winter. Foie gras (goose liver pâté), Basque-style calamari, steak, and duck breast are all featured on the menu, and homage is paid to various regional dishes. The varied wine list should satisfy all budgets. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Choice and flavours |
18, place du Parlement Bordeaux, Aquitaine 33000 France +33 556 48 2903 |
This is undoubtedly the best crèperie in town. In summer, diners watch the comings and goings of passers-by on the pretty Place du Parlement from the charming terrace. Buckwheat crèpes with onions, scallops or ratatouille (stewed Mediterranean vegetables) are house specialties, as are dessert crèpes served with chocolate, bananas, coconut, chestnut purée and various flavours of ice cream. The attentive service often includes a visit from the boss himself. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Regional and original |
114, cours de Verdun Bordeaux, Aquitaine 33000 France +33 556 48 1715 |
Hiding behind a brasserie façade is a modern interior, minimalist in design. The chef, Yves Gravelier, gave his name to this establishment dedicated to regional cuisine, which varies with the seasons: Brasero (charcoal grill) of mullet, fricassée de langoustines et ris de veau au zeste d'agrumes (casserole of crayfish and calf sweetbreads with citrus zest), club-sandwich with cod, ham, lamb's lettuce and horseradish , half a pigeon flavoured with garlic and grilled – a selection of sophisticated dishes for lovers of country food revisited! Open plan kitchen and two air-conditioned rooms of up to 25 covers each. Review © 2007, Wcities |

For the love of food |
10, rue Ausone Bordeaux 33000 France +33 5 5679 3030 |
Sophistication is the name of the game in this establishment, whose chef is considered one of the best in town. The originality and first-class quality of his dishes have awarded him a place in the Gault-Millau guide (a reference guide for the best restaurants in France). The décor is simple and relaxing and the dishes are mainly regional; foie gras (Goose Liver Pâté) and fish from the Bay of Arcachon are all prepared in an unusual way and beautifully presented. The cellar is remarkable and the wine list includes vintages from Saint-Emilion and Pessac Léognan. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Simply charming |
27, rue Buhan Bordeaux 33000 France +33 5 5652 9436 http://www.le-vieux-bordeaux.com/ |
Located in a small street in the town centre, this restaurant boasts three dining rooms, a terrace and a garden. One of the rooms is a beautiful vaulted cellar laid out for meetings and seminars; the second is baroque in style and decorated in shades of red and yellows; the third, called petit salon, displays glass cabinets full of earth from the great vineyards of Bordeaux. On the menu, the cuisine of the Southwest features sea bass flavored with star anise and served with a fennel marmalade. Review © 2007, Wcities |
