Nationally known holiday tradition |
222 Berkeley Street Boston, MA 02116-3763 United States +1 888 484 7677 (Tourist Information) http://www.july4th.org/ rmacdonald@mugar.com |
This concert on the Charles River Esplanade, begun by late Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler in 1974, has become a nationally known holiday tradition. The evening's high point is the fireworks display over the Charles River, timed to begin just as the 1812 Overture reaches its climax. The Pops usually bring a roster of pop music and political stars to help inspire revelers with patriotic spirit. If you go, arrive early; people begin showing up a day in advance, and crowds can be as large as a half-million people. Admission is free. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Head over to this popular Allston bar for a great time with no attitude. Part-restaurant part-bar, Common Ground caters to a wide range of patrons. DJs spin British pop and reggae and local acts take to the stage. Casual dress and a relaxed demeanor are the rule here. Popular with area college students, the bar gets crowded and sloppy on weekend nights. The bar serves appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and some entrees. Review © 2007, Wcities |

French merchant Peter Faneuil (pronounced FAN-you-wull) gave the hall that precedes the marketplace to his adopted home of Boston in 1742.
