Men-Tei

Inexpensive Japanese cuisine

Men Tei (which literally means noodle shop) offers the Back Bay crowd an inexpensive alternative right off of Newbury Street. Try the fried-chicken ramen—this huge bowl of noodles with ample chicken will leave you plenty to take home. The starters are worth trying as well. The seaweed salad and shumai (dumplings with a shrimp filling) are popular. The atmosphere here is that of a diner with small booths crowded in but large windows give an airy feel. Credit cards not accepted; cash only.
