Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) wrote his book of short stories "Mosses from an Old Manse" while living in this house from 1843-46. The Grounds, open year-round for self guided tours, have been maintained as in the time of Hawthorne's stay, including a vegetable garden gifted by Henry Thoreau in 1842. Guided house tours offer a glimpse of Hawthorne's writing desk and other historical furnishings. Review © 2009, Wcities |
