Make your own pizza |
405 Centre Street Boston, MA 02130 United States +1 617 524 3740 x12 http://www.milkywayjp.com/bell... |
This pizzeria has quirky lights and hand painted plates. Create your own custom pie by starting with a Simple Simon (sauce and cheese) and then choose your toppings, from mushrooms and onions to sun dried tomatoes and shrimp. If pizza is not your thing, try one of the great pasta dishes. The restaurant serves beer, wine and cordials. Not ready to call it a night after dinner? Head downstairs to the Milky Way Lounge, a hip candlepin bowling alley and live music club that is open until 1a. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Indian food in Jamaica Plain |
701 Centre Street Boston, MA 02130 United States +1 617 522 2195 http://www.bukharabistro.com/ |
The chicken vindaloo with rice and any of the incredibly spicy curries are good choices at this comfortable restaurant, where fabulous Indian cuisine is the order of the day. Specialties include dosa, a southern Indian crepe, and pav bahji, a style of potatoes served in Bombay. Vegetarians will also find selections to tantalize their tastebuds. Plan to arrive early because this restaurant has a large following. The restaurant, which serves beer and wine, has some interesting design touches. Traditional Indian wall hangings grace one wall while trendy geometric designs decorate another. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mingling with the crowd! |
711 Centre Street (at Harris Avenue) Boston, MA 02130-2520 United States +1 617 522 9500 |
This was formerly the popular Arbor restaurant, which has now been transformed into a more casual and informal eatery - Cafe D. Serving delicious contemporary American fare, this is the perfect place to enjoy a good meal accompanied by a leisurely drink. Though the decor is basic and prosaic, the atmosphere and the ambience put you at ease almost instantly. It generally sees a crowd of locals who love to chat away leisurely over dinner, stuffing themselves bite by bite over the lovely fish and lamb specialties. So if you want to catch-up on some of the Jamaica Plain gossip, this could be a great stop! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classic neighborhood pub |
3484 Washington Street Boston, MA 02130-2602 United States +1 617 524 2345 |
This landmark neighborhood pub has been in operation since 1882, and it has been a local favorite since the doors first opened. With 50 beers on tap and possibly the largest collection of single-malt Scotches in the country, it is easy to see why this a popular drinking spot. But Doyle's is also a family favorite for dinner. The kitchen serves a very affordable selection of burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and grilled meats, and there is a children's menu. Brunch is served on weekends and holidays. Does not accept credit cards; accepts cash only. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tasty baked goods |
55 South Street Boston, MA 02130 United States +1 617 524 9200 |
Fiore's Bakery is unabashedly the best in Jamaica Plain. Swing by for a reliably good coffee and cookie after enjoying a stroll in the nearby Arboretum. The cakes here are tasty as well as beautiful, and the baguettes are crusty on the outside and light and tender on the inside. Also to be recommended: pecan sticky rolls, spinach bagel, cupcakes, and the chocolate molten cake. With the recent introduction of soups and pizza at lunch, Fiore's now also serves one of the best affordable light lunches around. The limited seating can be cramped on weekends, but on weekdays you can sit undisturbed for hours. Stephanie Bostic Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh fish and more |
730 Centre Street Boston, MA 02130 United States +1 617 983 5177 http://www.jpseafoodcafe.com/ |
This neighborhood restaurant grew out of a successful fish store next door, so you know that the food is fresh. Choose sushi from the Japanese side of the menu, or select Korean fare such as the bi bim bap, a beef and vegetable dish. Many diners accompany their meals with a large, silver can of Sapporo beer. Relatively inexpensive, laid-back and full of regulars, this restaurant is a pleasant discovery. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Open for a Good Time |
5 McBride Street Boston, MA 02130 United States +1 617 983 2000 http://jamessgate.com/ |
With a warm atmosphere and great fireplace, James's Gate is a pleasant bar and restaurant with a great beer selection and reasonable wine list. In the summer, the outdoor seating can be pleasant although the view could be better. The bar "side" outdoes the restaurant side, where prices are higher and the décor less comfortable. The chef's strength is definitely the standard to barely upscale pub food (Try the homemade clam chowder, gate plate, or shepherd's pie) over his good but unsurprising attempt at restaurant cuisine. Good trivia night on Mondays, and pleasant Sunday brunch. Stephanie Bostic Review © 2007, Wcities |
