Authentic Italian experience |
109 Salem Street Boston, MA 02113 United States +1 617 523 0990 http://www.aldenteboston.com/ |
The North End is where you want to venture for authentic Italian food and Al Dente's fits the bill. Owner Joe Bono used to run a curbside sausage cart prior to opening this eatery with its open kitchen, mahogany wainscoting on the walls and granite tables. The restaurant serves a variety of pasta, chicken, veal, beef and seafood dishes. Try the Al Dente Special, which is sautéed scallopini of veal, chicken and shrimp, with broccoli, mushrooms, peppers and artichoke hearts in a white wine, garlic butter sauce. The Allure of Allora |
351 Hanover Street Boston, MA 02113 United States +1 617 523 9268 |
Allora is more delectable than other Italian restaurants. Its small size is attractive- it means an intimate and friendly environment. Bigger, bustling places often equate with harried servers, overcooked food, and an atmosphere that inspires indigestion. However, the portions are generous, and if Italian isn't what you want, order something from the turf or the surf, or both in the same dish. Want something lighter? Try the tasty spinach and fennel salad. -Theresa Ludwick Review © 2007, Wcities |

The atmosphere at this North End establishment will transport you to Italy and the food will delight as well. Antico Forno is aptly named, meaning "old stove" in Italian. It translates to top-notch food; pizza, oven-roasted chicken, grilled vegetables and cheese with olive oil, wood-grilled swordfish and plenty of pasta selections. Their gnocchi is excellent, which really says something considering this section of the city offers the best in Italian cuisine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This Italian restaurant in the North End, which serves beer and wine, is an affordable lunch or dinner spot. For lunch, the menu features several traditional Italian paninis, a quality roast lamb and an eggplant sandwich. Begin dinner with the delectable antipasto. If the daily pasta special is not to your liking, try the fusilli con broccoli rabe. The grilled leg of lamb and porchetta (roast pork) are good bets. Supposedly, Bell in Hand got its name from its original owner- the Town Crier. Established in 1795, it has the distinction of being the oldest continuously-operating tavern in America and served the likes of Daniel Webster and Paul Revere, though the original building no longer stands. Bell in Hand is a full-service restaurant with a menu that reflects melting-pot American cuisine. Options include Spicy Fried Calamari and Coconut Shrimp, as well as favorite American standbys like steak, burgers, and pizza. This seafood restaurant serves old-fashioned New England fare in a great waterfront setting. Some might call the decor tacky, with ships' wheels, lobster pots and fishnets adorning the wood-paneled walls, but it is reassuring that places like this are still around. Paul Revere Would Have Eaten Here |

Carmen is considered by many as one of the city's best known secrets. Now This has its up side and its down side. The upside is that you don't have to go far to experience a really nice Euro-Italian meal, the down side is that you may have to wait – especially on a weekend – for your chance to sit at a table in this big little place, even with a reservation. Contemporary Roman Cuisine |

Chef Marc Orfaly, after conquering the world of bistro fare at Pigalle, decided to tackle Italian head on. The antipasti here offer just a hint of what's to come. Oven-Baked Figs, Fried Cod Cheeks and an ample seafood list (which includes sardines, anchovies, marinated calamari and eel) will whet even the most stubborn of appetites. As per Roman tradition, even beyond the appetizers, you still have two courses to choose from. The first choice is mainly pastas and risotto. The second is more complex: Chicken Cacciatore, Veal Saltimbocca and lobster are just a few of the options. And still, all of that is to say nothing of the items hot off the grill: steaks, sausage, fish or the Surf & Turf. The wine list is exclusively and impressively Italian. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This two-storey Italian restaurant is very spacious and serves pastas, risottos and lasagnas cooked in traditional Italian style. But it's hard to miss the contemporary American undertones as far as the sauces are concerned. Take your pick from the antipasto misto which is a meaty mix of imported dry Italian meats and cheeses. Scrumptious salads like della casa and spinaci are worth the small dent in your credit card. The pasta and risotti list is endless with parmigiana di melanzane— an old eggplant recipe. The endless cocktail list is worth the sip. White wines rule the roost here. While ties, tuxedos and breeches can stay in the closet; cowboy shirts, khakis and boots are welcome. Reserving a rooftop table can be tedious, hence plan in advance. And note: this is a non-smoking restaurant, so cigarette fans beware! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Quiet country dining |
69 Prince Street Boston, MA 02113 United States +1 617 248 8814 http://www.sageboston.com/ |
Once discovered, this place proves to be a jewel for those who like quiet dining without too much fuss. Situated in one of Boston's famous districts, its rustic and toned-down décor appeals to the tired mind. Chef Anthony Susi adds his own creative touch to classic Italian and American dishes, transforming them into contemporary delicacies, while retaining their simplicity. A typical meal would begin with a glass of sparkles or reds from the impressive list, to the accompaniment of Taylor Bay Scallops, Mandarins and Pomegranates. Any of the chicken, venison, tuna and rib dishes would make for a satisfying entrée, while the Warm Chocolate Cake and White Chocolate-Espresso Foam will add a ribbon of sweet delight to the whole meal. A la Meridionale |
210 Hanover Street Boston, MA 02113 United States +1 617 720 0052 http://www.tarantarist.com |
Taranta serves every delicious kind of food from regions lying under the meridian. The chef, a native of Salerno rustles up recipes with roots right from the 18th century. The pan roasted mussels, with Sicilian marsala, Italian bacon and roasted shallots is a large appetizer. Ravioli ripieni d'aragosta is a pasta with lobster and crab, a mascarpone cherry tomato sauce served with shrimp! Fish dishes like salmon in crosta di macadamia can be teamed with a spinach salad called di spinaci. Note the use of gorgonzola cheese in this simple sumptious salad. Taranta helps you savor post Medieval Age food from places like Apulia, Sardinia, and Molise! Moreover the Zagat survey has called it exciting and experimental. The bread was baked a trifle coarse in those times, but dine at this waterfront restaurant to uncover more seasonal secrets. Review © 2007, Wcities |
