In Boulder it is always a good time for ice cream. That is why this small hole-in-the-wall scoop shop keeps the doors open well into the night. The cones are cheap and the ice cream, which comes in an array of creative flavors, is homemade on-site. You can actually watch the transformation of sugar and cream into a tasty chocolate chip or raspberry cheesecake flavor. The location on the Hill draws all sorts of characters, from hungry hippies to college professors to wandering tourists, making for an interesting wait in line.

The pizza here won the Best of Boulder in 1998, and offers over 30 toppings and eight different cheeses. Subs, calzones, pastas, lasagna and salads round out the menu. The small, green building has minimal seating. So take-out is your best bet. East Coast travelers missing a little New York attitude with their service will feel right at home.

There is a long-standing rumor that Robert Redford worked as a janitor here during his short stint at CU. The pizzeria stays open late, making it popular with the college crowd. Pizza comes in three crust choices based on density. Saving the crust and then dipping it in honey at the end of the meal is a tradition here. Burgers and Mexican fare round out the menu.
