Put on the sombrero and head into Casa Alvarez for a taste of Old World Mexico. Owners Ernesto Alverez and Betty Cormane create traditional favorites in an upscale (but bona fide) south-of-the-border atmosphere. If you feel like a change from the usual Mexican fare, order the house specialty, Mojara Frita ($8.99). The dish is a whole fried freshwater tilapia with a side of beans. Numerous shrimp selections, vegetarian dishes and old spins on standard Mexican items complete the menu. The bar offers over 30 different types of tequila. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The cooks are accustomed to accommodating Boulder's vegetarian population and they are willing to hold the meat in any dish. Daily specials help spice up the standard menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Music central |
1135 13th Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 447 0095 http://www.foxtheater.com |
Describing Boulder's music scene requires two words: Fox Theatre. The intimate hall, located on The Hill, feels more like a gathering place, rather than a concert hall. It has the same feel of drinking beer in your friend's big garage, except that this place holds over 400 people, has precise acoustics, and draws some of the biggest names in music. Bands like 311 and Counting Crows, who easily sell out larger venues in Denver, always opt to stop by the Fox, drawn by the wild fans and the small town ambiance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Locals' secret Southwestern feast |
1043 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 449 5273 http://juanitasboulder.com/ |
Do not let the hole-in-the-wall facade and dilapidated interior of this restaurant fool you—it is one of Boulder's best-kept secrets. The overflowing portions of Mexican and New Mexican regulars, blue corn tortillas, steaming enchiladas, pinto beans and green chile satisfy the stomach, while an array of specialty margaritas quench the thirst. Every meal begins with seriously deep fried chips and homemade spicy salsa. The restaurant's comfortable booths are good for resting tired feet and antsy kids. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Care-free and casual |
1535 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 546 0886 |
This loose and carefree place harbors a heavy 1960s slant and features Jimi Hendrix and Grateful Dead paraphernalia on the walls and the staff looks as if they attended a few Dead shows during their time. But even if you are not into that music or style, the menu is still worth checking out. Salads, sandwiches, and a huge offering of burger choices are available including the Black and Blue Burger, which features blackened seasoning with blue cheese. Nine home-brewed beers are offered on tap. Review © 2007, Wcities |

If you are strapped with the dubious burden of finding a place to dine that has enough of a varied menu to suit everyone's tastes, then Murphy's is the perfect solution. The dark wooden tables exude a casual feel, making it perfect for a social lunch or after-work chatter. Mexican dishes, burgers, salads and sandwiches dominate the menu. There is also a spattering of specialty items such as the Beef Brisket. Guinness is on tap. Review © 2007, Wcities |
