"Hapa," Hawaiian slang for the blending of Asian and American, is also the name of Boulder's trendy spot for sushi.The eclectic dining room has a sparseness that is distinctly urban. The bar brings in a DJ on the weekend and things get funky with jazz. Sushi is what the crowds come for, but you can also order a number of meat and seafood items, including a sweet Honey-Miso Salmon ($14) and the popular Hawaii Five-O ($19), French pork chops in a char-siu demi glaze.

Choose from over 100 sushi and sashimi selections, each one prepared right in front of you. Entrees feature a number of Pacific Rim seafood offerings. Enjoy items like Spicy Seafood Udon or Salmon Teriyaki. Most entrees come with Tamanishiki short grain rice, which rates as the highest quality rice in the world.

Its sister restaurant, Sumida's Sushi Bar, shares the space, offering a choice of Japanese favorites. The decorative interior looks like a posh oriental painting. Choose traditional Thai seating or standard table and booths. Sweet and Sour Salmon, a true must, is the chef's specialty. The vegetarian crowd will find plenty of meatless offerings. Japanese items abound.

The atmosphere is upbeat, and the knowledgeable staff makes the dining experience an adventure. Opt for the popular Rocky Mountain Roll or the Spicy Yellowtail Roll for authentic Japanese flavor. There is also a Thai menu that includes an array of noodle dishes. The restaurant offers an on-line menu for true food-ordering convenience.
